I Discovered My Spirit Animal
I closed my eyes to go to sleep around 3am today and I saw a white and brown owl with bright yellow eyes. I know what a “spirit animal” is but I never really embraced the idea in terms of my own spiritual journey. I thought having one was a “cute” concept but having a spirit animal was never something I seriously I connected with. I thought it was a trend animal lovers and outdoorsy types who are spiritual were drawn to. In the past I embraced animals like the tiger and mythological bird phoenix, viewing both as symbols of strength, power, and bold firey energy, qualities I want to embody but these were not my spiritual animals. I simply liked the energy they represented.
After once hearing that your spirit animal or spirit guides will reveal to you, when I shut my eyes I knew the owl I saw was mine. The vision came out of no where and my conscious thoughts were by no means seeking and thinking of animals or guides. It just appeared. Being a philosopher who loves to discover meaning I searched to find out what this really meant. An owl is a bird of prey. It is symbolic of knowledge, wisdom, and intuition which are all qualities I possess and strongly value. According to Pure-Spirit.com, “Owls live within the darkness, which includes magic, mystery, and ancient knowledge. Related to the night is the moon, which owls are also connected to. It becomes a symbol of the feminine and fertility, with the moon's cycles of renewal.”
It makes perfect sense and it’s no coincidence that the owl would be my spirit animal. I wanted to learn more about owls and find out what kind of owl it was I saw. After researching I learned the owl I saw was a Burrowing Owl. Unlike the others, this owl lives in the ground. Interesting... like me this little owl is unconventional and does it’s own thing. So yes, this is how I discovered my spirit animal and new favorite... The Burrowing Owl.
