audrey: hey short stack
audrey: howâs the weather down there?
she couldnât get the image out of her head. the thing that had been haunting her nights, keeping her awake longer than usual, that showed up every time she closed her eyes. the screams from the crowd, from toni, still echoed in her ears like a constant ring she couldnât shake.
to put things simply, she was in a rough state.Â
Mornings werenât her forte, either. she was on her third cup of coffee when she went to pick sugar up on her way to school. it was an unofficial tradition they had started recently; if anything just to give them a little more time together. but today was harder than other days. today she was running on little sleep, as it was one of the nights that sugar didnât come over due to her dad. she just wanted to see her.Â
(and maybe get a nap in at some point of the day.)Â
âgood morning, beautiful.â she stated with a small smile and tired eyes as sugar opened the door.Â

she was just trying to do her job.Â
just trying to make it through the night; to close up after everyone went home. stupid apprenticeship. they gave her all the dirty work. cleaning, polishing, sanitizing, stocking... ugh.Â
she stood by the door, arms crossed in annoyance as she leaned against the threshold --Â
âhey, short stack, arenât you a little young to be in here ? weâre closing up soon, anyways.âÂ
The dynamic had changed drastically the prior night; teasing and shameless flirting gone out the window when it showed that sugar-snap actually needed some help. and at first, audrey was hesitant -- despite the fact that sugar-snap was humoring her conversations, she wasnât entirely sure where she stood with her. she didnât know if sugar-snap would even allow her to help. yet, suddenly, here she was.Â
it was a nice change of pace, and she felt that maybe she could get on the serpentâs good side with all this. she laid out a notebook on the table with a few pens, her laptop already booted up off to the side. poetry was easy to her; she had written a little over the summer during dark nights, but other than that she hadnât really dabbled in it unless it was for a class. this was going to be a learning experience for the both of them.Â
