Summary: Dean’s night out the bar gets a little more interesting when he runs into a girl who might need a little saving.

A/N: This is a little bit of an unconventional way to fill this square, but I am so very much in love with it. I hope you are too. It’s based off the song Drunk Girl by Chris Janson, and there are lyrics interspersed throughout.
Dean was sitting at the bar, his elbows resting on the warped plywood, his head in his hands. As he nursed his third beer of the night, he felt like something shifted in the air around him, and he glanced up. His eyes drifted across the room before falling on her, a small smile finding its way to his face.
She was gorgeous, that was for sure, but that wasn’t what drew his attention. It was the way she moved, dancing with her eyes closed like she was the only one in the room. She was bouncing like a pinball, singing along to every song. All the words were wrong, but she kept singing, bopping around the room without a care in the world.
He took in her hair, a perfect mess, and her little-too-tight dress, and he realized what he was looking at. Either a bachelorette or coming off a breakup. His eyes drifted to her hand, taking in the large number of cover charge stamps decorating it and he sighed, putting two and two together.
“Definitely a break-up,” he muttered, confirming his suspicions by scanning the bar and finding a noticeable lack of friends around her. He kept his eyes on her as he took another swig of beer, watching as she continued to twirl around the room, stumbling around on her high heels. She nearly fell once, and he jumped up, ready to intervene, but she caught herself, staggering back to grab her drink off the table.
She downed it in one gulp and then closed her eyes again, throwing out her arms and spinning in a circle. Dean chuckled and turned to the bartender. “Hey, Joe, you know that girl over there?”
Joe followed the path of his pointed finger and shook his head. “Naw, but I know she’s had a lot to drink. I’m gonna have to call her a cab.”
“Don’t bother,” Dean said with a smile, slamming a twenty down on the bar as he stood up. “I got it.”
“You sure?” Joe questioned, raising his eyebrows.
Dean nodded, already halfway to the dance floor. “Yeah, I’ll make sure she gets home safely.”
He turned his head, focusing his full attention on the beautiful woman still swaying drunkenly in front of him. To his left, he could see a tall man with a preppy, little skinny tie heading her way, and he threw him a hard glare, cutting him off at the pass. Within a few more long-legged steps, he was by her side, but he hesitated, placing his hand out as if she was coaxing an easily-spooked deer. “Um, hey...”
She whirled around like a whip, her eyes flying open and meeting his, wild irises, clouded over from the alcohol, struggling to focus. “Wh...at are you?” she stammered, her speech slurring slightly as she blinked a few times, squinting her eyes. “A male model or sometin’?”
He couldn’t help but laugh as he shook his head to correct her. “No, just a guy. I came over here because wanted to make sure you…”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” she screamed, her voice rising far above the music, her hands flying out in front of her. “Who moved the floor?”
“Okay then…” Dean sighed, reaching out to grip her elbow, steadying her. “Can I call someone for you? A friend or boyfriend...”
“Boyfriend!” she snorted, brushing his hand away and doubling over with laughter. “Ha! Not a chance, not after what he did. He wishes!”
“Um, okay…” Dean whispered, watching as her face fell, sadness washing over her. “Maybe someone else?”
She shook her head, straightening her shoulders resolutely. “No. ‘Sides, I don’t need a knight in shining farmer.” She spun back around, throwing her head back and her hands up into the air. “I’m perpect...perbect...perfectly capable of taking care of myself.”
“Sure you are,” Dean said with an indulging smile. “But, just the same, maybe we should…”
Before he could finish, she spun around once more, coming to a stop with a whispered “whoa”. She made eye contact with him for the briefest of seconds, her eyes rolling from side to side. “I, uh, I don’ think I feel so good.” And, with just enough warning for him to reach out his arms to catch her, her eyes drifted shut, and she collapsed into his arms.
“Great,” Dean groaned, lifting her up with ease and gently settling her over his shoulder. “Why do they always gotta pass out?”
-
Thirty minutes, and a quick check of her wallet, later, Dean was standing outside of Y/N’s door, cradling her still sleeping form in his arms. He adjusted her slightly, pausing as she softly groaned, before he used her key to unlock the door, pushing it open with his foot.
He protected her head with his hand as he stepped inside, making sure to turn carefully with her in his arms before closing the door. He moved quietly down the small entryway, his eyes quickly adjusting to the shadowed darkness.
He quickly established that the first door he stopped at was a bathroom, so he kept walking, moving towards the door at the end of the hall. When he passed the threshold, he aimed straight for the well-made, inviting bed, placing her down on it gently. She stirred a little before curling in on herself, her eyes remaining closed.
He smiled, stopping just to watch her for a moment, her chest rising and falling steadily. Her hair had fallen in front of her eyes, and, without even thinking, he reached down and brushed it away, his breath catching as he realized what he was doing. He closed his eyes, shaking his head ever so slightly, and straightened back up, turning towards the door.
“Wait…”
The voice was whisper soft, and he almost didn’t hear it, but he did, stopping mid-step. He spun back around to find her sitting up, staring at him. “You brought me home.”
It was almost more of a question than a statement, so he nodded his head. “I wanted to make sure you got here okay.”
“And, now, you’re leaving?”
The vulnerability in her voice shocked him to his core, and, as his eyes connected with hers, he couldn’t bring himself to leave. “I, uh, I guess I could stay for a bit.”
He moved slowly to the other side of the bed, much more hesitantly than before, and sat down gingerly on the edge. Without warning, her fingers lightly touched the base of his shoulder blade, and he felt like he’d been burned, quickly jumping back up and stepping away from the bed.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, moving until she was sitting on her knees, staring after him.
He paced around for a few seconds, raking his hands through his hair. “I should go. You need to sleep, and we barely know each other…”
“Don’t you want me?”
His head whipped around to meet hers, his heart falling at the broken expression on her face. Damn, he wanted to kill her ex for making her look like that.
He took a deep breath and walked towards her, sitting down on the bed next to her and gently resting his hand on her cheek. She leaned into it almost instinctively, shutting her eyes and breathing him in. “Y/N,” he whispered, his voice as soft as the wind. “You’ve had a lot to drink. As much as I want to stay, and, God, do I want to, I can’t. It wouldn’t be right.”
She opened her eyes, and he inhaled sharply at the tears he saw reflected in them. “I know you don’t believe it right now, but nothing good would come from me staying here tonight. You deserve a whole hell of a lot better than some drunken one night stand, Y/N.”
He leaned in and placed a feather-light kiss to her forehead, gently laying her down as he did, until her head hit the pillow beneath her. He sat back up and grabbed the blanket next to him, carefully placing it on top of her and smiling as he watched her close her eyes and snuggle into it. Standing up, he, once again, made his way to the doorway.
“Hey, knight in shining armor?”
His grin widened, and he paused, his hand on the doorknob. “Yeah?”
“Thank you for saving me.”
“You’re welcome,” he answered quietly, looking back at her one last time and drinking her in before he closed the door behind him and walked back down the hallway.
He took her keys out of his pocket and placed them on the counter by the front door. His hand lingered as he thought of the way she’d looked at him, the way her hand had felt against him. He may have picked up the life she threw on the floor, but she’d done a hell of a lot more for him.
On the spur of the moment, he took an old receipt out of his pocket, smoothing out the crumpled paper and grabbing a nearby pen. He scrawled his name and number on it and left it by the phone, turning to go before he could second guess himself. Leaving the hall lights on, he walked out and locked the door, the slip of paper he’d left behind staying as a last sign of hope.
-
The next morning, he groaned as he rolled out of bed, smoothing over his tousled hair and making his way into the bunker’s cold kitchen. Sam must’ve already been up and out, because there was a pre-made pot of coffee waiting for him. He smiled and grabbed it, pouring a cup. Looking over at the phone he’d left on the table last night, he raised his eyebrow when he noticed it was blinking. Grabbing it, he pressed play on the message, grinning even wider when he realized who it was from.
“Hey...I, um, I wanted to thank you for last night. You went above and beyond the random-guy-at-a-bar call of duty, and I will forever be grateful. I’ve been, uh, going through a rough time lately, as I’m sure you noticed, and I think you were exactly what I needed last night....Dean.” She paused, but he could hear the smile in her voice as she said his name. “I figured I’d go out last night and meet some boys who could take my mind off it, but you showed me the difference between a boy and a man. Thank you for being a man.” Another pause, this time a little longer. “Um...if you’re up to it, I’d really love to buy you a drink to show you how much it meant to me. Maybe something non-alcoholic this time,” she laughed. “Coffee? Let me know.”
He didn’t even let the message finish before he was redialing her number, his own cup of coffee long forgotten on the counter. He smiled into the phone as he waited for her to pick up, imagining the sound of her voice on the other end.
He wasn’t sure what exactly would come from this, but he knew one thing: he’d never been so damn grateful to take a drunk girl home.

“No, cut!” Jensen called out, his voice full of aggravation. It was at least the 6th time he had called cut, not happy with the way the scene was going.
Relaxing your shoulders, you stayed on your mark, knowing that he would make his demands before heading back behind the camera.
Sure enough, he came striding around, his long, jean clad legs eating up the distance between him and you. His henley had come unbuttoned, his hat turned backward. And you couldn’t help the shiver of anticipation that slid down your spine as you waited for his direction.
“Y/N, what are you doing?” He asked, his jaw ticking in annoyance. “Aren’t you listening to a word I’m saying?”
You didn’t want to admit that you hadn’t been. You had been too caught up in the way he took control, demanding that things be done a certain way. It had ignited this spark in you that you didn’t even realize you had. And you hated standing here, with people watching when you wanted nothing more than to take Jensen back to his trailer.
“Y/N!” Jensen exclaimed.
“I’m sorry, I was distracted,” you answered, your tongue darting out to your bottom lip, his eyes catching the movement.
“You’ve been distracted all day,” he muttered, fixing his ball cap. “Let’s take a break, maybe you’ll be ready to film when we come back. Be back in an hour everyone! Ready to work!”
You hurried off the set, thankful for the break, hoping that some time to yourself would calm yourself down. You would have tried a cold shower, but the makeup department would have hated you for that.
Your trailer was on the other side of Jensen’s. It was small and cozy, and you often found yourself relaxing in there in front of the fire. Stepping inside, you pressed the button, turning on the fake flames before pulling a cold bottle of water from the fridge. Taking a long drink, you tried to ignore the heat pooling in your lower abdomen.
Seeing Jensen all bossy and assertive had given you all sorts of ideas. The two of you had been a couple for almost a year, and while your sex life was anything but stale, you hadn’t ventured past the normal lovemaking.
“Y/N, what the hell was that?” Jensen asked as he barged into your trailer. You could see how tight his jaw was, and you knew he was not happy with you.
“It’s all your fault!” You exclaimed. “You were so freaking hot, being there with your backward ball cap, and bossy attitude. I couldn’t help but think…,”
“Think what?” His voice went lower as he stepped closer to you, and you knew you had to take a chance. You still had almost an hour left before you were due back on set, and if you didn’t make a move now, you didn’t think you would ever be brave enough again.
“I couldn’t help but think that I wanted you to...to take control right now. Over me,” You finished, blushing slightly.
He seemed slightly taken back, and you wondered if you had made a mistake. But then a smile slowly filtered on his face, full of promise, full of temptation. “You want to play that way?”
Your heart racing, you nodded. “Yes...Daddy.”
You had never expected to say those words. Never in this context. But it seemed to fit the mood, and Jensen’s nostrils flared, his hands clenched tightly in fists at his side. “Good girl. Why don’t you start by slipping out of those clothes. Don’t want to get your work clothes dirty.”
Of course, your character wore layers, much like everyone on Supernatural. First came the leather jacket, then the flannel shirt, leaving you in a plain black tank top, jeans and your boots. Bending down, you started to unlace your boots when you felt Jensen come up behind you, his hands holding tight to your hips. “I love this view,” he said, pulling you back against him, his erection straining against his jeans. “Maybe I should just pull your jeans down and fuck you like this.”
“You’re the boss,” you whispered, not moving, letting him make all the moves.
“Shoes off,” he insisted, stepping back, leaving you disappointed. Your boots came off, your jeans quickly following, getting folded nicely and placed on the counter. Jensen reached over, making sure your door was locked before he sank down on your couch, spreading his legs. “Come here.”
You started to walk over, but he pointed to the floor. Getting down on your hands and knees, you waited for his next direction. Patting his thighs, he beckoned you closer. “Why don’t you see how excited you’ve made me.”
Licking your bottom lip, you undid the buttons of his jeans. He helped you pull his jeans and boxers down, freeing his impressive length. “Good girl,” he praised. “Now suck.”
You had never imagined you would be this hot with getting ordered around, but you were dripping wet, ready to do whatever he asked. Wrapping your hand around the base, you bent down, barely taking the tip of him into your mouth. “I didn’t ask you to tease. You’ve been doing it all damn day,” he muttered. “Now what did I ask you to do?”
“Suck,” you mumbled around him, your eyes peering up to see his green ones full of lust.
“Then get to it.”
“Yes Daddy,” you muttered, feeling him twitch in your mouth. Hollowing your cheeks, you slid down until you felt him pressing against your neck. Breathing through your mouth, you let him take your hair, guiding you up and down on his cock. Running your tongue along the vein underneath, you tried controlling your gag reflex, letting him push you past your comfort zone. “That’s my girl,” he praised you, pressing you down until your nose touched his skin. “Such a good cock sucker.”
The dirty words had never been something you had used in the bedroom, but they had you squirming on your knees, needing something to ease the ache between your legs. “As much as I’m loving this, we don’t have enough time for games,” Jensen sighed before he pulled you off of him. Taking a deep breath, you knelt back on your knees, waiting for his next directive.
“Come have a seat,” he ordered, patting his thighs. “But first, take those panties off.”
Sliding off your black lace bikinis, you straddled Jensen’s thighs, feeling his erection brushing against your folds. “Ready to go for a ride?” He asked, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth.
Nodding, you reached down, taking his cock in your hand, lining it up with your entrance. With your gaze caught in his, you sank down, sheathing him fulling inside you, filling you to the brim.
Groaning, you rocked your hips, loving the feel of him inside you, easing some of that ache.
“Get riding,” he insisted. “We don’t have much time.”
Arching your back and bracing your knees, you began rocking your hips. Back and forth, rubbing your clit against his pelvis bone. Never moving up, keeping him sheathed deep inside you.
Jensen’s hands had reached down, holding tight to your hips, no doubt leaving bruises. He helped set the pace, lifting you up before bringing you back down hard enough it was almost pain like pleasure. His eyes were closed, his head tipped back as you drove both of you crazy. You could feel him twitching inside you, and you clamped down hard, your folds tight against his skin. “Oh fuck!” He exclaimed, his hips arching off the couch as he spurted deep inside you, bringing on your own climax.
Breathing heavily, you let him pull you off his lap, cuddling against his side. You only had twenty minutes before you were due back on set, but you weren’t sure your legs would hold you up to make the walk back. “I don’t know what the hell brought that on, but I liked it.”
“You were being bossy, and it was hot,” You exclaimed. “All I could think about was you bossing me about in the bedroom. I never realized we would both enjoy it.”
“I enjoyed it. A lot,” he answered, pressing a kiss to your temple. “Maybe we can explore it a little more tonight?”
“I’d like that,” you yawned.
Standing up, Jensen fixed his jeans. “And hopefully now, you can concentrate on work.”
He tossed your clothes towards you. “I’m not so sure about that,” you admitted. “Not with the promise of tonight to look forward to.”

"Evie, don't do that, honey," you tell her as you push the shopping cart over to her.
"But, Momma, I want cereal."
"Okay, but you need to tell me, not start climbing the shelves."
She hops down, but she sees something that causes her little eyes to widen before she takes off running towards the other end of the aisle.
"Evie!" you yell before sighing and taking off after her. When you round the corner and see what, or rather who, she took off after, you stop in your tracks. "Dean?"
He looks up at you from where he's knelt down on the ground in front of your daughter. "(Y/N)," he smiles. "I, uh... I think you lost someone."
"Yeah, I think I did," you reply before giving Evie a stern look. "What have I told you about running off like that?"
"I wanted to say hi to Mr. Dean."
"That's fine, but it's the same thing as with you climbing the shelves. You need to tell me first."
"Yes, Momma," she sulks.
You take a deep breath. "You're not in trouble, okay? Just please don't do that again."
"Yes, Ma'am," Evie replies before taking off again.
"Now where are you going?"
"Right here," she replies as she stops in front of the candy. You sigh and shake your head. Dean laughs as he stands up to face you.
"She seems like a little firecracker."
"You don't even know the half of it," you smile.
"How's your ankle?" Dean asks.
"It's fine," you reply. "Wasn't broken, so I was able to get back to work pretty fast. Good thing too. We wouldn't have been able to make it very long with all my money going towards rent and... And you don't wanna hear me complaining."
"No, you're fine," Dean smiles.
"Seriously, there has to be something I can do to..."
"Stop," Dean tells you as he holds a hand up. "(Y/N), it's like I said back at the hospital. I should be thanking you."
"What is that supposed to mean?" you ask him. Dean just shakes his head.
"Don't worry about it."
"Mommy, I'm hungry," Evie announces as she comes running back over to you.
"Okay," you reply before looking back at Dean. "I guess we'd better get going."
"Alright," Dean says.
Evie waves up at him. "Bye, Mr. Dean."
Dean laughs and waves back at her. "Bye, sweetheart. But, uh, you can drop the Mr. if you want. Dean will work just fine."
"Okay," she smiles as you both turn to walk off.
"Hey, uh, (Y/N)? There actually is something you can do for me," Dean says before you get very far.
"What's that?" you ask him.
"Let me take you out for dinner."
Your heart starts pounding, and your cheeks start getting hot. "Um... I-I don't know, Dean. I'm not really looking for..."
"Neither am I," he says quickly. "I just thought that maybe... Tell you what. I'll give you my phone number, and you can call me if you change your mind. And if you don't, then I'll leave you alone."
You think about it for a moment before handing him your phone. He quickly types his number in before handing it back to you.
"There," he says. "Should I be concerned that I'm now the only contact that you have?"
You laugh a bit. "I promise I'm not a loner. I just haven't had time to add all my contacts back since my phone was destroyed in the fire."
"Mommy."
"I'd better go before she starves," you joke.
"Yeah," Dean nods. "I'll, uh, see you around, (Y/N)."
"Maybe," you smile. "Bye, Dean." You take Evie's hand and look back at Dean one more time before walking off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Mommy, watch the movie," Evie says as she looks up at you.
"Sorry, baby girl," you tell her as you turn your attention back to the movie you're supposed to be watching with her. You wait until her attention is back on the T.V. before looking back down at your phone. Your thumb hovers over Dean's name, but you can't quiet bring yourself to click on it. Not after recent circumstances.
"Momma," Evie whines.
"I know," you smile as you turn your phone off and set it aside. "I'm sorry. I'll leave it alone now."
Evie nods her head before curling up further against you. You pull her over into your lap and wrap your arms around her. You know you need to be taking in these moments, and not thinking about some guy you barely know. Even if he did save both of your lives.
It's not long until Evie starts to feel like dead-weight in your arms, and you look down to see that she's asleep. You pick her up and carry her upstairs, tucking her in and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. You walk back downstairs to the living room and sigh when you see your phone still sitting there on the couch. You pick it up and stare at the blank screen for a moment, only looking away when you hear something outside.
You look up, jumping when you see the silhouette of someone standing in your front yard. You know it's probably nothing. Just someone hanging around the apartment and being creepy. But you don't want to take your chances.
You unlock your phone and start dialing 9-1-1, but you decide against it. You know what could happen if you do that. You realize there's only one other option, and you really wish you had the nerve. When the person outside starts walking towards your door, you decide to throw your dignity out the window for a moment.
You know there's no turning back now when you click on his name. And you know it's really set in stone when you hear his voice on the other end of the line.
"Hello?"
"Dean..."
"(Y/N)! Did you already change your mind?"
"Listen, I have a favor to ask," you say as you start quickly closing all of the curtains. "I know I have no right to ask for anything after what you've already done for me, especially since we don't know each other very well..."
"(Y/N), what's going on?" Dean asks. "You sound panicked."
"There's someone outside my apartment."
"What's your address?"
You quickly ramble it off as you make sure that all the doors are locked. "Dean, I know this is a lot to ask, and I understand if you can't or don't want to come."
"Hey, I'm on my way right now," he tells you. "(Y/N), I promise that I don't mind coming over to check everything out, but I have to ask. Why did you call me instead of 9-1-1?"
"I have my reasons," you say. "Listen, you don't have to..."
"No, no, no. I'm telling you, (Y/N), I don't mind. I'll be there in like five minutes."
"Okay," you breathe out. "I'm gonna hang up now. I gotta go check on Evie."
"Just hang on, sweetheart. I'm almost there."
"Thank you," you tell him before hanging up the phone. You rush upstairs to Evie's room, and you let out a breath of relief when you see that she's sound asleep.
After a few minutes, you hear someone knocking on your front door. You go to your bedroom and look out the window and down at your front door to see Dean standing there on the small porch. You quickly go back downstairs and head over to the front door.
"Thank you," you tell Dean as soon as you open the door.
"Hey, it's no problem," he tells you. "I didn't see anyone, but I did see footprints in the dirt under your window." You swallow hard and nod your head.
"Listen, I'm sorry I called you so late."
"It's only ten-thirty," he tells you. "But you do realize that I can't just leave you now, right?"
"Dean..."
"I'll stay out in my car and keep an eye on everything."
"No, you won't."
"(Y/N), you're obviously shaken up," Dean points out. "And what if whoever it was decides to return?"
"Okay," you say slowly. "You can come in for a while, but you are not sitting out here in your car all night long."
You move out of the doorway, and Dean hesitantly walks into your living room. You shut the door behind him, quickly locking it before turning to face Dean.
"Where's Evie?"
"Upstairs sleeping," you reply.
"Good," Dean says as he nods his head. "You okay?"
"Yeah," you reply slowly. "At least I think so."
"Whoever was out there tonight, did it look like anybody you know?"
"No," you reply as you shake your head. "I mean, I didn't get a good look at them, but it definitely didn't look like who I thought... anybody I know."
"What was you getting ready to say?" Dean asks you.
"What are you talking about?"
"You were getting ready to say that the person didn't look like who you thought it was."
"No," you lie. "I... That's not what..."
"(Y/N)," Dean says as he raises an eyebrow at you. "Tell me the truth, sweetheart. Why didn't you call 9-1-1?"
"Okay," you sigh as you sit down on the couch, motioning for Dean to take a seat as well. He sits down on the other end of the couch, turning to face you. "I can't believe I'm about to tell this to a stranger."
"Well, like you said. I did save your life, so I'm technically not a stranger."
You smile a bit and shake your head. "I have a feeling that you won't leave me alone until I tell you anyways."
"Nope," Dean replies.
"Okay." You take a deep breath. "Before I tell you this, I am in no way looking for pity or for you to feel sorry for me."
Dean puts his hands up and shakes his head. "I promise."
"Good," you smile before turning serious. "I just recently got out of a bad relationship. And by 'bad relationship' I mean I was... I am married to a guy who's abusive."
Dean's eyes widen a bit. "You're married?"
"Technically," you reply. "The divorce isn't final yet. We had been married a year when I found out I was pregnant with Evie. He changed after she was born. He said she wasn't what he had imagined, and it was all my fault since I'm her mother and I carried her for nine months."
"Idiot," Dean mutters.
"Trust me, it gets worse," you tell him. "He started hitting me when Evie would cry for more than an hour, which happened quiet often because she had a lot of stomach aches when she was a baby. I ignored it, because I didn't think I could raise her on my own.
"And then he started to take it out on her. When she was two, she was being a kid and threw a tantrum for a toy or something she was wanting and he smacked her right across the face. That's when I decided enough was enough, and I left. He found me, made my life miserable, and forced me to come back to him."
"How did he force you?"
"He threatened me with a custody battle," you tell Dean. "I couldn't take the chance on losing my baby girl, and he knew that. He said he'd drop it if I moved back, so I did. The abuse stopped for a while, but it was all already ruined. The trust, the love, it was all gone. And then one night, he came home drunk, and I ended up with a new scar."
"I feel like I'm asking this a lot, but why didn't you call 9-1-1?" Dean asks you.
You shake your head. "I couldn't. It wouldn't do me no good."
"Do you have something against cops?"
"Not at all," you reply as you shake your head again. "Other than the fact that he is one."
"Oh," Dean says as his eyes widen.
"Everytime I call, I'm terrified that he'll be the one who shows up. And the few times that I did call on him, they didn't believe me, and I got made fun of. Everyone down at the police station probably thinks I'm insane because of all the stories he's told them about me."
"I have to admit something," Dean begins. "I kind of already knew part of the story."
Your eyes widen. "How?"
"Evie told me the night of the fire," Dean says. "She mentioned something about her Dad hurting you both, and then at the hospital when I said that she told me things I probably have no business knowing, she was showing me all of her bruises."
You close your eyes and let a few tears fall. "You should go."
"(Y/N), I'm sorry if I've said something wrong."
"No," you say quickly as you both stand up. "No. I... I shouldn't have called you in the first place."
"Yes, you should have," Dean tells you. "You were scared, (Y/N), and you were trying to protect Evie."
"It's not going to do me any good anyways," you tell Dean. "He's just going to find me again. He already has."
"What do you mean?" Dean asks.
"The fire," you begin, "it wasn't an accident. It was set intentionally, and even though it's been proven that he did it, he's convinced everyone I'm setting him up. I've already gotten calls from his cop buddies telling me to quit trying to ruin his life. I'm sure that by now I'm probably a joke at the fire department too."
"Actually, you're not," Dean says before thinking about it. "Trust me."
"And how would you know?" you ask him.
Dean takes a deep breath. "Because that's where I work."
You go silent for a moment as you take in what he just said.
"Oh," you breathe out. "So the night of the fire..."
"I was off duty," Dean replies.
"Oh," you say again. "So what did you mean when you told me that you should be thanking me?"
"You know what, I really should be going," Dean says as he starts back over to the door.
"Seriously?" you ask him. "I just told you my story, and now you're just going to leave?"
"Yeah," Dean replies as if it's an obvious answer. "It gives me another reason to see you again."
You laugh a bit and shake your head at him. "Fine," you reply. "But you're going to answer my question one day."
"(Y/N), if you need me again, do not hesitate to call me," Dean tells you. "I mean it. Put me on speed dial."
"I will," you promise.
"Good," Dean smiles. "G'night, sweetheart."
"Goodnight, Dean." He smiles at you one last time before walking out the door and pulling it shut behind him. You lock it back before going over to the window to watch Dean pull out of your driveway, immediately wishing that he hadn't left.
A/N: This was written or @spnfluffbingo2019, and @spndeanbingo.
Dean knows something isn't right. He was supposed to go just a few days into the past and correct a mistake he made. A mistake he immediately regretted. But this wasn't what he was expecting.
None of his surroundings are familiar. He's found himself standing outside of a beautiful two-storied home that looks much like the one he's so often imagined himself living in when he dreams about a perfect, apple pie life.
All Dean knows is that something went wrong. He has no clue where he's at, or even what time period he's in. And he certainly doesn't know who the little boy running down the concrete walkway towards him is.
"Daddy!" the little boy yells before jumping into Dean's arms.
Daddy? Dean thinks to himself as he settles the young one onto his hip. "Hey, buddy," Dean says with a smile, not wanting his confusion to shatter the little boy's enthusiasm.
"Guess what we did today!"
Dean decides to play along. "What did you do?" Dean can't help but to laugh at the wide-eyed innocence as the little boy tells him about the day's adventures with opened-arm gestures and a voice that squeaks with excitement every now and then. The boy stops to take a deep breath before continuing, but another voice cuts him off before he can go on.
"Let Daddy in the door before you start telling stories."
Dean completely freezes at the sound. He's heard that voice only one other time, and it sends his heart pounding in his chest.
"Aww," the little boy protests. "But, Momma..."
"Come inside and wash your hands for dinner. You can finish your story then."
The little boy perks up at the sound of permission to continue his tale. "Okay!" He starts wiggling around in Dean's arms, and Dean bends down to let the little boy go. As soon as Dean releases his hold, the little legs take off running just as fast as they can.
Dean watches as the little boy runs inside, but he keeps his eyes glued to the ground. He takes a few deep breaths before he finally gets the courage to look at your face.
"Are you just gonna stand there all day, or are you going to come in and act like you know us?" you ask him as you walk a little further out onto the porch.
"I... Um..." Dean swallows hard past the lump in his throat before trying again. "Sorry." He walks towards you with an almost nervous look on his face. Once he gets close enough, you wrap your arms around his neck and hide your face in his shoulder. Dean freezes again, and his eyes go wide. It takes him a moment to realize what's happening before he hesitantly returns the embrace.
"I missed you today," you breathe out.
"Um... Y-Yeah... I..." Dean pulls you back a bit and takes a deep breath. "Um, (Y-Y-Y/N), right?"
You give Dean a confused look and raise an eyebrow at him. "Dean, have you been drinking?"
"No. No," Dean says quickly as he shakes his head at you. "I just, uh... I'm just tired."
"Oh, are you sure that's all? Are you sure there's nothing bothering you?"
"Yeah. Yeah, everything's fine." Dean gives you the most convincing smile he can manage right now, but inside he's panicking. What on earth is going on?
"Okay," you say softly. "Why don't you come on in and rest before we eat?"
Dean nods his head before crossing the porch. He doesn't dare go through the front door until you open it and enter the house first. Dean takes a quick glance around the yard before walking on in the house behind you.
Dean's immediately met with a squeal, and he turns his head to the left to see a little girl standing up in a play pen and reaching out for him. You head on into the kitchen, but Dean just stands there in the doorway looking at the light-headed toddler who desperately wants him to pick her up.
"Dada!"
Are you kidding me? Dean thinks as he walks over to the play pen. He bends over and picks up the little girl, holding her little body close to him. As soon as she looks up at Dean with green eyes that perfectly mirror his, he knows he's a goner.
"Hey, sweetheart," Dean says softly as he brushes some hair out of the girl's face. This is wrong, Dean tells himself. I've gotta figure out how to get home. I need to figure out what went wrong. But it's like something is pulling him further and further into this reality. He doesn't know why, but this all just feels right, no matter how wrong he knows it is.
Dean's so lost in his thoughts that he doesn't hear you calling for him.
"Dean. Dean." You repeat his name a few times before walking over to him and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Dean." He jumps a bit before turning to face you. Something in his expression makes you feel uneasy. "Dinner's ready," you inform him. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yeah," Dean replies as he nods his head. "Why do you ask?"
"You're looking at our daughter like you've never met her before," you tell him. Dean just looks at you as if he doesn't know what to say, and you take a deep breath. "Alright, why don't you take Luna on into the kitchen, and I'll go check on little man upstairs."
"Luna," Dean says as he quickly looks from your daughter resting in his arms to you. "That's a... pretty name."
"Well, I would hope you think so," you laugh. "You are the one who picked it out."
"Yeah. Yeah. Right," Dean says quickly. "I, um... Yeah, I knew that."
You open your mouth to say something, but decide against it for now. Instead, you head on upstairs, leaving Dean standing in the living room with Luna in his arms.
"Okay," Dean breathes out. "Calm down. This is just another day for you." He looks down at your little girl and smiles a bit. "Alright. You ready to eat?"
"Mmm," Luna replies as her eyes widen, causing Dean to laugh a bit. He carries her into the kitchen and walks over to the high chair. "No!" the toddler protests as she wraps her arms around Dean's neck. "Dada."
"Okay. Okay. I gotcha," Dean says softly as he sits down at the table with Luna in his lap. When the little boy comes running into the kitchen and climbs up into the chair beside of Dean, one thing runs through Dean's mind. What have I gotten myself into?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Well," you say softly as you enter the nursery. "Hunter is out." Dean has to bite his tongue to keep from laughing at the ironic name. "You did great with them today."
Dean can't help but to smile when he thinks about the squeals and laughter it took to get the two ready for bed. "I had lots of practice," he replies, remembering the similiar routine he always went through with Sam when they were younger. Dean looks down at the little girl in his arms and takes a deep breath. He knows he needs to figure out what's going on, but maybe a few more minutes won't hurt.
"You know, the kids might not be able to notice anything, but you're not fooling me," you tell him. "There's something bothering you."
Dean just shakes his head at you. "Don't worry about it."
"Okay," you sigh, knowing all too well that he's not going to talk. "I'm going to head on to bed. You coming?"
"Later," Dean says. "You go on."
You look at Luna and shake your head. "You do know she's asleep."
"Yeah, I know." Dean finally looks up at you and smiles a bit. "I just can't put her down yet."
"No wonder she's such a Daddy's girl," you tease. "Alright. Try not to stay up too late. I promised Hunter we'd take them somewhere tomorrow if a hunt doesn't come up."
"You know about hunting?" Dean asks you with wide eyes.
"Yeah," you reply slowly as you raise an eyebrow at him. "Dean, did you fall and hit your head?"
"No," Dean says quickly as he shakes his head. "I just... Never mind."
"Dean, I think you need to come on to bed."
"Yeah," Dean answers as he nods his head. "Just, uh, give me a minute, okay?"
"Alright," you say before leaning up to kiss his cheek. Dean swallows hard as he watches you leave the room.
Once Dean makes sure that you've gone to bed, he pulls his phone out of his pocket. Dean quickly dials Sam's number, only to have the voice on the other end tell him that the number is no longer in service.
"Why did I think that was going to work?" Dean mutters under his breath. He takes a deep breath and starts thinking about what his next move should be. He decides that there's only one thing left to try, so he heads downstairs and walks out onto the back patio. He closes the sliding door, looking around to make sure he's alone before taking a deep breath.
"Cas," Dean loudly whispers into the night air. "Come on, man. This isn't funny. I don't know what you did wrong, but you gotta take me back. I'm not in the mood for whatever game this is." Dean waits a minute, but he doesn't get an answer. "Cas, come on!"
Dean pleads for a few minutes before he finally decides to give it up. He heads back inside to find you coming down the stairs.
"I was about to come check on you," you tell him.
"I'm fine," Dean says while trying to give you a convincing smile. "I was just getting some fresh air."
"Come on," you say as you walk over and take Dean's hand in yours. "Let's go to bed."
Dean's heart pounds in his chest at the feeling of your palm against his. Once you enter your bedroom, you go sit down on the bed, but Dean just stands there in the doorway. You sigh and walk back over to Dean, wrapping your arms around his neck.
"You look stressed," you tell him.
"A little," Dean replies. "Really, (Y/N), don't worry about me."
"I can't help it," you say. "I love you."
Dean tries to remember that he doesn't belong here. That he's not who you think he is. But he can't remember anything once your lips are pressed to his. It feels so right to have you in his arms, that he forgets just how messed up it all is.
Dean sighs against your mouth as his arms wrap around your waist. He pulls you closer to him, and he moves his lips down to your neck. Dean wraps his hands under your legs and carries you over to the bed, laying you down on your back. He quickly pulls his shirt over his head before attaching his lips back to yours.
You run your hands over across his shoulders and down his chest. Dean pulls back to look at you, suddenly being snapped back into reality.
"What's wrong?" you ask Dean as you lightly trace the tattoo on his chest with your finger.
"Sorry," Dean says as he rolls off you and over to the other side of the bed.
"What are you sorry for?" you ask as your heart starts pounding. "Dean, did I do something wrong?"
"No," Dean says quickly as he shakes his head. "No, sweetheart, I just... I'm just ready to go to sleep."
"Oh," you say as your eyes fill up with tears. "Okay." you roll over onto your side facing away from Dean, knowing you've done something wrong.
Dean's heart breaks when he sees the look on your face right before you turn away from him. He takes a deep breath before throwing his arm over you and pulling you close to him.
"(Y/N), I didn't mean to upset you."
You shake your head, bringing a hand up to quickly dry your eyes. "It's just that you've been acting weird and distant all day, and you won't tell me what's going on."
Dean doesn't say anything.
You roll back over so you can face Dean, and he tenses up when he realizes just how close your face is to his.
"Listen, if you're mad at me for some reason..."
"No, no, no, sweetheart," Dean says quickly. "It's nothing like that." He feels bad that he's made you worry, but he doesn't even know what's going on himself, much less be able to explain it to you.
"Just don't worry about it, and try to go to sleep, okay?" Dean says softly.
"Okay," you reply as you nod your head.
Before Dean relizes what's happening, he presses his lips to yours. It's like his body is set on auto-pilot. You scoot closer to Dean, and lay your head onto his chest. That's when he realizes what just happened.
You can't get in too deep, Dean reminds himself. He takes a quick look at your face and shakes his head. Too late.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dean's eyes fly open when he hears a quiet cry. He doesn't need time to figure out where he's at in the unfamiliar setting. It's like his mind automatically knows.
Dean immediately goes into protective mode, checking to make sure you're okay before getting ready to go check on the kids. He doesn't even make it off the bed before your bedroom door is slowly opening.
"Daddy?"
Dean realxes when he sees the silhouette of your son walk into the room. "C'mere, buddy," Dean says as he holds out his left arm.
Hunter runs over to the bed and lays his head on the mattress, looking up at Dean with watery eyes.
"What's wrong?" Dean asks as he runs his hand over the little boy's back.
"I had a bad dream."
"Alright," Dean says as he stands up off the bed, not wanting to wake you up. Dean starts to walk out of the room when he notices that Hunter isn't following him. "Come on."
Instead of walking over to Dean, Hunter holds up his arms to be picked up. Dean chuckles before lifting the boy up, smiling when Hunter wraps his arms around his neck and lays his head onto his shoulder.
Dean carries Hunter out of the room and down the hall, only stopping to check in on the baby before walking on down the stairs to the living room. He lays down on the couch, letting Hunter curl up beside of him.
"You're okay, now," Dean says softly. "I gotcha." His heart aches because he knows this isn't his life, and it never will be. The longer he lays there with your son in his arms, the more reality sets in.
Dean looks down at Hunter to make sure the kid's asleep before he carefully gets up from the couch. He walks into the kitchen and over to the counter, resting his elbows on the smooth surface and putting his face in his hands.
Dean jumps and quickly turns around when the light suddenly turns on. He relaxes when he sees it's just you.
"You're not okay," you say without a hint of question in your voice.
"(Y/N)..."
"Don't try to lie and tell me differently," you tell Dean. "Level with me."
Dean takes a deep breath. "It's nothing you need to worry about."
"Dean," you say softly as you walk over to him. "I'm just trying to help you. Baby, you've fought so hard for the life we have here. I just can't stand it when you act like you're not enjoying it."
"That's just it," Dean says as he throws his arms up in the air. "I can't enjoy it because this isn't my life."
Your eyes widen as you step back a bit. "Dean, what is going on with you?"
He sighs and shakes his head. "You wouldn't believe me."
"Did that witch on your last hunt do something to you?"
Dean almost says no, but then he gets an idea and decides to play along. "Witch?"
"Yeah," you reply.
Dean shakes his head. "The last thing I hunted was a werewolf," Dean replies, trying to stay as close to the truth as possible.
"What do you..." You stop and swallow hard. "What do you remember last?"
"I was standing in the bunker with Sam and Cas." Dean decides to leave it there, still not sure how well you'll take the whole truth.
"Do you remember anything about me? About us?"
Dean shakes his head. "The only thing I remember about you is saving you from the werewolf. We dropped you off at the nearest hospital, and that's it."
"Oh, no," you breathe out as you bring a hand up to your mouth. Your eyes fill with tears when you realize that Dean doesn't remember a second of your lives together. Dean's heart breaks seeing your reaction and knowing that he's lying to you, but he also knows that he very well can't tell you the truth. "Dean, what do we..."
"Don't worry," he tells you. "I'm sure it'll wear off in a couple days."
"And if it doesn't?"
"We'll deal with it," Dean tells you. "I'm sorry, (Y/N)."
"No, don't apologize," you tell him. "It's not your fault."
Yeah, it kind of is, Dean thinks.
"Dean?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you promise me something until we get this figured out?"
"Don't worry," Dean says, already sure of what you're about to ask of him. "I'll try to act as normal as possible around the kids."
"Thank you," you breathe out. You see the look on Dean's face, and you know he's blaming himself. "Babe," you say softly as you walk over to place a hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry about this, okay? We'll figure it out, and everything will go back to normal."
Dean nods his head, but he can't help it when his heart clenches at the thought. Because he knows that when everything goes back to "normal," he won't have this anymore.
~~~~~~~~~
You hear laughter echo through the house as you carry Luna down the stairs. You walk into the kitchen, and smile when you see Dean standing in front of the stove, with Hunter standing on his step stool.
"What are you two doing?" you ask as you carry Luna over to her high chair.
"We're making pancakes, Momma," Hunter informs you before turning back to watching Dean. "NO!" Hunter suddenly squeals, causing both you and Dean to jump and look at him with wide eyes. "Daddy, you're doing it wrong!"
"What did I do?" Dean asks before looking back at you with wide eyes. You laugh as you walk over to the pantry, pulling out a bag of chocolate chips.
"Ah," Dean says as he takes the bag from you before looking back down at Hunter. "Better?"
"Yeah," Hunter replies. "Put lots and lots in mine."
"Okay," Dean chuckles.
Everything doesn't go as smoothly as Dean had hoped. He tries not to alert the kids, especially Hunter, that something isn't right. But the second he starts feeling like he belongs here, he quickly reminds himself that it's not real. When you find him sitting across the table from you at breakfast, looking at the three of you like you're going to disappear from his life, you become even more worried about him than you already were.
"Dean," you say softly, catching his attention. "We're right here." He nods his head, reaching across the table to take your hand in his. But the comfort you're trying to provide is in vain, because Dean knows the truth. He's not lost his memory. This isn't some life that he just simply can't recall.
It's not his life to begin with.
After breakfast, you get the kids settled in the living room before walking back to the kitchen to clean up.
"You don't have to do that," you tell Dean when you catch him washing the dishes. You walk over to him and place your hands over his, stopping his actions. "Go," you tell him. "Go play with our babies, Dean. Maybe that will help you remember something."
"There's nothing there to remember," Dean says before really thinking about it.
"Dean what are you talking about?"
"Nevermind," he replies as he shakes his head.
"Hey," you say quietly, looking him in the eyes as you speak. "I don't know what it's like knowing that we have a life together, and not being able to remember it, but I promise you that you will, okay? Dean, we'll figure something out. We always do. I'll call Sam and..."
"No," Dean says quickly as he shakes his head. "I don't want him to worry about me, okay?"
"Alright," you nod. "Why don't you go help Hunter change into some actual clothes? I told him we might take them to the park for a while."
"What about..."
"I'll finish cleaning up here," you tell him. Dean nods before pressing a kiss to your forehead and walking off. He has to take a deep breath, willing the tears to stay put. He doesn't know what's worse. Being stuck in this dream world and forced to live a life that he knows will never be his, or lying to you about everything. He decides it's the latter, wandering why you and those two innocent kids have to be thrown into this whole mess.
I just wanted to fix a mistake, not create this lie, Dean thinks as he walks into the living room. But when Dean sees Hunter laying on the ground and playing with his sister, he's thrown back into that feeling of belonging. Like this is actually his life. Like he actually deserves this.
"Hey, bub," Dean says as he holds his hand out towards Hunter. "Let's go get you changed out of those pyjamas." Dean watches as the little boy jumps up from the floor, his eyes lit up with excitement.
"Are we going to the park?"
"Mom said we were," Dean smiles. "Come on." Luna squeals out when they begin to walk off, and Dean looks down to see her making her way over on wobbly, toddler legs. "Yeah, you too, jealous," Dean teases as he picks her up.
What was supposed to be a trip to the park ended up turning into an all day adventure for your little family. It's almost dark by the time the four of you get home, and Dean walks through the door with a kid in each arm.
"You need me to take one?" you offer, but Dean shakes his head.
"I got it," Dean replies. "I'm gonna go put them to bed."
"Okay," you say softly. "Hey, Dean? Thank you for today," you tell him. "You did great with them considering the circumstances. I mean, you're always great with them, but I know that not being able to remember anything makes it tough."
Dean shrugs his shoulders. "It's not that hard," he replies. "It seems like I've known them all their lives."
"Because you have," you remind him. Dean nods, another pang of sadness surging through him when the lie he's living comes back to smack him in the face. The truth that you don't know is he hasn't known them all their lives. Just for the past twenty-four hours.
"I'm gonna go put them to bed," Dean says. "Little man is starting to feel not so little."
You laugh and nod your head, watching as Dean climbs the stairs, being careful not to wake the kids. Dean decides to put Hunter to bed first, but as he gently lays him down and moves his arm out from underneath his limp body, Hunter wakes up and wraps his little arms around Dean's neck.
"I love you, Daddy."
Dean swallows hard as he presses a hand to Hunter's back, holding him close for a few seconds. "I love you too, buddy." Luna lets out a small whine as her little eyes open. "You too, pumpkin," Dean whispers before pressing a kiss to the top of both of their heads. Hunter eventually lets go of Dean and lays back down. Dean makes sure Hunter's bedroom door is cracked before carrying Luna to her room and laying her down in her crib.
"Goodnight, sweetheart," Dean says softly as he watches her drift back off. He tip toes out of her room and walks back down the steps, expecting to see you in the living room, but thankfully finding it empty. Dean drops his tired body down onto the couch, trying for the hundredth time today to not let the tears fall.
"Dean?" He looks over to see you coming down the stairs. Dean swallows hard when he sees that you've changed into a nightgown that leaves little to the imagination. You walk over to him, frowning when you see the look on his face. "Sorry," you say quickly. "Am I making you uncomfortable?"
"No," Dean replies as he shakes his head, but he's always been a bad liar.
"I wasn't thinking," you begin. "I just got ready for bed like I normally do and I wasn't thinking... I'll go change."
"Wait," Dean says as he gently tugs on your arm, pulling you over onto his lap. You're now facing him, straddling his lap, knees digging into the couch. Not exactly what Dean intended to do. He was just trying to stop you from heading back upstairs. But it's like something took him over, and he just couldn't stop himself.
You look down at Dean and smile a bit. He smiles back up at you before placing a hand on the back of your head, pulling your lips down towards his. Your hands fumble with the buttons on Dean's shirt as his lips move against yours. You grind your hips against Dean's, and he groans as he bucks his hips up off the couch. Once you make quick work of his shirt buttons, your hands move down to his belt. Dean's hands quickly grab yours, stopping your actions. You pull back, both of you panting for breath, and Dean gives you an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry," Dean rasps. "I got a little carried away."
"Don't be sorry," you tell him. "Dean, I understand if you don't want to, but maybe this will help."
He shakes his head. "It won't, (Y/N)."
"And how do you know?"
"Because I know, sweetheart," Dean tells you. "I know it won't work."
"No you don't," you argue. "Dean, I'm not trying to pressure you into anything that you don't want to do, but you have to try something to get your memories back."
"(Y/N), it's not going to work because there's nothing there for me to remember."
"What does that mean, Dean?"
"Look, just forget it, okay?"'
"No," you tell him. "Dean, you said that this morning too. What do you mean that there's nothing there for you to remember? There's our whole life together for you to remember."
"For you, maybe," Dean tells you. "But not for me, (Y/N), because this isn't my life. I never lived it to begin with."
"Dean, you're just saying that because you don't remember."
Dean sighs. "Sweetheart, I've been lying to you."
"About what?" you ask softly, not for sure what to make of all of this.
"There was no witch, (Y/N). Not for me anyways," Dean begins. "I remember exactly what happened."
"What did happen?"
"You might not believe me."
"I might if you explain yourself a bit better."
"Fine," Dean sighs. "This isn't my life, (Y/N)." Dean continues despite the look on your face. "I don't live here. I'm not married to you. We don't have kids."
"Dean, you're just saying that because you don't remember. We've been married for almost eight years."
"No," Dean says as he shakes his head. "Listen, sweetheart, you might be married to me, but you're not married to me."
You can't help but to laugh a bit. "Dean, you've completely lost me," you tell him.
Dean lets out a deep breath. "I told you you wouldn't believe me."
"Because it's nonsense."
Dean thinks about what to say before finally looking you straight in the eyes. "You want the truth?"
"Please," you reply as you nod your head.
"Okay," Dean sighs. "The truth is, one second I was in the bunker with Sam and Cas. I had made a big mistake, so I asked Cas to send me into the past about three days to fix it. The next thing I know, I'm here."
You open your mouth to respond, but stop when you see the look on Dean's face. "Oh gosh," you breathe out as you scramble off his lap. "You're not kidding."
"Unfortunately," Dean says as he shakes his head. "(Y/N), I know this sounds crazy, but I've only met you once. When I saved you from the werewolf. Me and Sam were working a case when we found you and..."
"You rescued me, and then dropped me off at the nearest hospital," you say quietly. "You've always told me that you wished you hadn't left me there, and you tried to go back in time to fix it, but I thought you were just always joking."
"I don't know what happened," Dean says. "I don't know what world or universe or whatever I landed in, but all I know is that something went wrong somewhere and... Wait a minute," Dean says as he looks up at you with wide eyes. "You're actually believing me?"
You laugh a bit as you sit down beside of him on the couch. "I have to admit," you begin, "out of all the weird stuff that's happened since I've known you, this is by far the most crazy. But, I've never had a reason not to trust you. You're usually right."
"Usually?"
"Well, I don't want to say that you're always right. It might feed your ego."
Dean shakes his head and laughs, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "So you're just okay with this?"
"No," you reply. "I'm panicking on the inside."
"Yeah. I know the feeling," Dean mutters. He looks down at his lap for a moment before his eyes widen and his head snaps back up to look at you. "Wait a second!" Dean says with a hint of excitement in his voice. "You said that I told you I tried to go back in time?"
"Yeah," you reply. "You've always told me that after you left me at the hospital, you tried to go back in time to change things, but it didn't quiet work out. You never really explained what that meant, and I always thought you were just joking anyways."
You watch as a hint of a smile spreads across Dean's face. "So that means that if everything happened exactly like it happened to me, then this... This is my future."
He swallows hard and looks down at the floor, trying to think of where to go from here. It's quiet for a while until Dean lets out a humorless laugh and shakes his head.
"I'm an idiot," he says. "This can't be my future. It's gotta be some trick played on me to show me what I'll never have no matter how hard I try. It's gotta be some alternate universe or something. This can't... I..."
To anybody else, it would look like Dean was panicking, which he probably is a little bit. But you know that the look on his face isn't purely fear. It's the look he gets when he desperately wants something to be true. When he's almost reached a goal that he's been aiming at for a long time, and he's terrified that it's going to all be taken away from him.
"Hey," you say softly as you reach over to lay a hand on his shoulder. "I'm pretty sure this is the reaction you were expecting from me," you tease.
"Sorry, but it's just too good to be true," Dean replies. "I mean, if you know about hunting, then you know everything, right?"
"If you're talking about what all you and Sam have been through, then yes, I know."
"Then you know that things don't just work out for us," Dean says. There's no way this is my future, Dean tells himself as he lets all the hope drain out of him. Especially not after the stupid move I made a few days ago. "This... It can't be real."
You can tell he doesn't believe his own words. He doesn't want to believe them. This is the life Dean has always wanted, always dreamed of, but that's exactly why he'll never have it. People like him don't get a happily ever after, or anything even close to it.
Dean looks at you and swallows hard, a look of realization settling across his features. "But it is real," Dean breathes out. "I mean, it has to be because what you said is exactly what happened. This is..." He looks around the room as if he can't fathom what's happening. You let out a quiet laugh.
"Are you okay?"
"Not really," Dean replies as a small smile settles across his face. "Here I've been thinking I was just zapped into some other dimension, when all along I've been living out my future. It's a lot to take in."
"Tell me about it," you reply. "Dean, I have to ask. You said that you wanted Cas to send you back in time because you made a mistake, but what did you do? Was your mistake leaving me at the hospital, or have you, the you I know anyways, always been joking about that?"
"No, I've not been joking," Dean replies. "That was my mistake. Biggest mistake I've ever made. I felt like I had left my whole world behind. Now I see why."
You laugh a bit at him. "Well, don't worry," you tell him. "If this does happen to be your future, we meet again about a week later at a gas station."
Dean's eyes light up. "Really?"
"Yeah," you reply.
"Huh," Dean smiles as he shakes his head. "I guess there wasn't much reason for me to time travel then, huh?"
"Apparently," you laugh. "I guess you don't happen to know where the you from this time is at, do you?" you ask him. "I mean, the you that I know."
"Technically," Dean begins, "if I am from the past, I'm the same Dean you know. Just a bit younger."
"You just made this a lot more confusing than it already was," you say, causing you both to start laughing.
"Sorry, sweetheart," Dean says. "But, no, I don't know where I'm at. Or, you know, the I that you know. I guess I'll... He'll? Return when Cas takes me back."
"Stop, now you're doing that on purpose," you smile as you playfully slap his arm. "Do you know when Cas will take you home?"
"Not really," Dean replies as he shakes his head.
"Okay," you breathe out.
"I'm sorry, (Y/N)."
"It's alright," you reply as you shake your head.
"Can I ask you something?"
"As long as it's a simple question," you tease.
"Hunter doesn't know about..."
"No," you reply quickly as you shake your head. "He doesn't know. When you go away on a case, we tell him that you're hanging out with Uncle Sammy for the day."
"Good," Dean says as he nods his head. "Now, I'm assuming his name wasn't just a coincidence."
You start laughing again. "Ever since we got married, I've joked about how funny it would be to name our son Hunter. When he was born, it just kinda stuck."
Dean nods his head. "And Luna?"
"You said that you've never seen the moon shine as bright as it did the night she was born," you tell him.
Dean groans as he throws his head back against the couch. "Domestic life has turned me into a softie."
You laugh at him. "Dean?"
"Yeah, sweetheart?"
"Why didn't you just tell me all of this from the beginning?" you ask him. "I mean, I understand that you were afraid I wouldn't believe you, but why lie? Why go along with the whole 'cursed by a witch' thing?"
Dean sighs. "I'm sorry about that too, (Y/N), but I didn't want to drag you into this whole mess."
"I just wish you had told me sooner," you tell him. "I don't like it when you leave me out of things. We're supposed to be in this together, even if you are past you."
Dean smiles and nods his head. "Hey, (Y/N)?"
"Yeah?"
"All seriousness aside, are you planning on wearing that to bed?"
Your cheeks heat up a bit when you remember the revealing nightgown that you're wearing. "Well, sort of, but I can change."
"Good," Dean says. "If you didn't, I'd have to sleep here because if I slept in the same bed as you with you wearing what you have on now, I might have to steal my own girl."
You giggle. "Behave, Winchester."
Dean smiles and shakes his head. "Never, sweetheart."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day proves to be harder than the previous for Dean. One moment he's sitting on the couch with Luna in his lap and watching cartoons with Hunter. The next, he's quickly passing the baby off to you so he can walk out of the room for a moment. After the third time it happens, you sit Luna down on her blanket before following Dean.
"Sorry," Dean says as he takes a seat at the bottom of the stairs. "It's just..."
"I know," you say softly as you sit down beside of him. "But just remember that you'll see me again in a few days."
Dean smiles and nods his head before looking back into the living room.
"What if I'm wrong?" he asks. "What if this isn't my future?"
"But what if it is?" you ask him.
"Well, just in case," Dean begins, "is there anything you should warn me about?"
You start laughing. "You want spoilers, huh?"
"Yeah," Dean answers as if it's the most obvious thing ever.
"Okay, lets see," you tell him. "When we meet again, at the gas station, I end up bloodying your nose."
"Now I know you're making things up," Dean laughs.
"I am not," you say truthfully. "I was alone filling my car up, you touched my shoulder, and it startled me. I was obviously still rattled from the werewolf attack, and I wasn't taking my chances."
"Great," Dean laughs. "I have that to look forward to."
"Trust me. That's just the beginning," you tell him.
"What else?"
You open your mouth to reply, but decide against it. "Dean, I could sit here and tell you stories about our amazing, beautiful life together all day long, but I think you'll get the best experience without knowing beforehand."
"Yeah," Dean chuckles. "Probably."
"Why don't you go play with our kids, Dean? You won't see them for a few years."
"That sounded weird," Dean laughs.
"You know what I mean," you reply. He stands up and the two of you begin to walk into the living room, but you stop him. "One more quick thing," you tell him. "Our relationship has had its ups and downs. More so before we got married than after. Now we make a pretty good team. But just... Promise me you won't give up."
"I'll never give up on you, sweetheart," Dean tells you.
"Good," you smile.
"Daddy!" Hunter calls from the couch. You both look over at him, and he frowns. "Hurry up."
"Sorry, buddy," Dean laughs as he walks over, picking Luna up before sitting back down beside of Hunter.
One second, Dean is sitting there surrounded by his little family, however temporary they may be at the moment. But the next, he's standing in the bunker. It takes Dean a moment to realize where he's at, but once he does, he immediately looks over at Cas.
"Dean, I..."
Dean puts a hand up to stop him. "Just tell me it was real."
Cas nods his head. "Very real."
"And (Y/N)?"
"She's alright. She doesn't remember anything. Neither do the children," Cas answers. "And she has you back too."
Dean nods his head once before beginning to walk off.
"Wait!" Sam calls out after him. "Dean, what happened? What did you see?"
"Don't worry about it, Sammy," Dean replies.
He tries not to think too much about it. Maybe he's still wrong, even though Cas confirmed it was real. Maybe it's just a possibility of what his future could be like. All of Dean's doubts are crushed the day he pulls up at a random gas station, and Sam nods his head towards somebody.
"Isn't that..."
"(Y/N)," Dean breathes out as he stares at you.
Sam laughs at his brother. "What are you smiling so wide for?"
"Because I'm gonna marry that girl, Sammy."
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah," Dean replies. "Someday."
He takes off towards you, stopping when he gets halfway there before walking back over to Baby and pulling some napkins out of the glovebox.
"What are you doing?" Sam laughs.
"Trust me," Dean says as he holds the napkins up. "I'm gonna need these."
Warnings: Anxiety, panic attacks, floof
Summary: Separated by distance, Dean and his girl are both struggling with how to make it work without losing their respective minds.
She waited, for what felt like hours. The anxiety that was triggered in her nerves was maddening, but she knew that she had to be patient. There was no worse feeling in the world than waiting for Dean to return from a hunt… well… except maybe waiting for him to call when she knew he would be out and about, blowing off steam with Sam at a bar in whatever dingy town they were staying in.
Those nights were almost harder than the hunts themselves. Getting a call that he had been hurt was one thing… knowing he didn’t call because there was another woman in his bed, was a whole different story. This night, was a mix of both and it was when she started to question whether or not she could really do this with him. Long-distance was hard enough, but long-distance with a hunter who had a penchant for pretty blondes was something else entirely.
She had to trust him. She had to have enough patience, trust and love in her heart to believe that he would always come home to her, even when it was easier not too. That was the promise they had made when it all first started. But that was almost six months ago, and in that time, she had more than her fair share of nights where the anxiety and the fear of losing him became overwhelming and she acted out, self-sabotaging everything she wanted and didn’t realize she had. But that was how this disorder went, and for as much as she loved him, her brain would always believe that he loved her just as much.
She wanted to stop doubting and stop worrying that anytime he was silent, that she was losing him. Deep down she knew that would be the one thing--other than him falling victim to some monster--that would be how she did end up losing him.
Sitting around wasn’t helping her anxiety, either. There had to be something she could do to break the patterns of the disorder that plagued her. Calling him to check in wasn’t enough, she felt the need to take action, do something to prove to him that she could just sit and wait, but why should she? She thought if she could find ways to make him understand just how much she loved him, reassure him that his efforts weren’t in vain, maybe it would help her, too.
Dean looked around the bar and realized there wasn’t a clock in sight. His phone’s battery lost its life earlier, so he couldn’t even check that. With technology being what it was, there wasn’t even a working payphone nearby that he could call and check in with her. Dean, normally calm and clear-headed, began to feel that tick of anxiousness in the back of his neck and absently rubbed a hand there trying to make it stop.
‘If I don’t call soon, she’s going to think I’m fucking someone else… or dead... actually think the first one would be worse,’ he thought, as his eyes scanned the room searching for his little brother, so he could go and take his phone.
No Sam insight, which means he took a girl back to their shared room, or he was with a girl in the back seat of the Impala. Either way, Dean growled in frustration and felt that nagging feeling begin to grow. He needed to call her. He needed to make sure she knew that he was safe and very lonely, sitting at the bar, nursing a whiskey and thinking of only getting back to her.
That was something new for him; that feeling of needing to keep her reassured. Everyone had hang-ups, right? That’s what he told himself. Hers just happened to be an overwhelming fear of being left behind because she wasn’t good enough to keep around or just not enough in general. Not like she didn’t have reason to feel that way, but Dean decided it was on him to help waylay those fears because she WAS worth it. She was worth every damn second he could give her.
Slapping down a twenty on the bar, Dean threw back the remainder of his whiskey and abruptly left the building. The cool night air smacked him in the face, sending any remnants of the liquor’s effects packing. He was completely sober and aching to feel his girl beside him.
It only took a moment for him to locate the Impala in the bar’s parking lot, which was blessedly empty. The motel was only across the street, so Sam could have easily walked over with that petite brunette he had been chatting up. Dean didn’t really care either way, but it was ingrained in him to watch out for his little brother. He had to remind himself that Sam was a big boy and could take care of himself. His girl, however, needed him; and maybe, he needed her a little, too.
He got in and started the engine, about to pull away and realized just how long it would take to actually get to her. She was more than a thousand miles away, and it would take two days, at least, before he’d be able to see her again. His heartfelt heavy with the recognition of it; his eyes tired and weighted with tears he refused to let fall. Exhaling with a growl, Dean put the Impala in drive and turned towards the motel instead of the freeway, just praying that he’d be able to charge his phone quick enough to call her and that Sam wasn’t there in the middle of … something.
The room was dark and empty, to which Dean sighed with gratitude. He dug into his duffle bag to retrieve the charger and found an open plug beside his bed. He waited a few minutes for the phone to take some charge before he powered it up and dialed her number. Straight to voicemail. His heart sank. The only time her phone went straight to voicemail was when she was deep down in the rabbit hole of self-doubt; completely convinced that he stopped loving her and had abandoned her for someone else.
“Fuck!” he barked and dialed again with the same results. Angry that he hadn’t been able to call or text, earlier, he tried to calm himself and think rationally. He knew all of her fears and did his best to help her deal with them, but sometimes things were out of his control. He hated that she was most likely home, crying, thinking all sorts of wrong thoughts about where he really was, or what he was really doing. Sometimes, it made the relationship feel hard and he knew it would be far easier to just walk away… But the way he loved her didn’t allow that to be possible. The truth was, he was just as scared of losing her because, in all his life, no one had loved him the way she did; certainly, no one made him feel as good, as she made him feel.
This time he dialed Sam, wanting to know where his brother was because he had every intention of jumping back in the Impala and driving in her direction; sleep be damned.
Sam’s went straight to voicemail, too. No matter how much he wanted to pick up and leave the state, without having at least talked to Sam, he couldn’t. So instead, he kept dialing them both, alternating between numbers for the next hour or so until sleep finally claimed his weary mind.
Hours later, Dean’s eyes fluttered open at the sound of the hotel room door opening. He had been perfectly sober when he fell asleep, so why did his head feel as if he had polished off that bottle of whiskey? He attempted to open his eyes, but the light that came in through the front door made that impossible. Figuring Sam was coming in after a night of tantric sex with the brunette from the bar, Dean exhaled with a low rumble and crossed his arms over his chest, burrowing back into his pillow and trying desperately to get back to the dream he was having.
He was nearly back there when he felt the weight of someone sitting on his bed. Concerned that Sam was hurt, he forced himself to lift his head and turn over, checking to make sure his little brother was alright.
“Sammy?” he rasped, his voice thick with sleep. “You alright? Tried calling--”
“Dean…”
It was her voice. But it couldn’t be, it was still a dream…
He sat up more and used his fist to dig the slumber from his face. When his eyes were able to open and adjust to the morning light that had filtered into the room, he saw her familiar form next to him on the bed and thought, for a moment, he was simply back in his dream after all.
“I’m sorry I woke you,” she said softly, and when she touched his arm he realized she wasn’t a dream… his girl was really right there beside him.
“What the--How did you--?!” Dean sat all the way up and felt his chest heave with relief that she was within arm’s reach.
“I needed you,” she replied softly and moved across the bed to be closer to him. “It was getting bad again… and it's not fair that you always have to make me feel better. So, I figured I would come to you. Because--”
“C’mere,” he said, cutting her off as he pulled her close.
Dean’s arms wrapped around her shoulders and pulled her back to his chest. He spooned her closely as her arms covered his, gripping them tightly as she trailed kisses across his hands before tucking the tangled mess of their fingers into her chest.
“I tried to call…” he whispered, the warm of his breath causing her to close her eyes and feel relief coat her skin.
“I figured. I’m sorry I couldn’t wait, I just needed to be with you.”
“Baby, I couldn’t be happier to see you. I almost started driving last night… I--I needed you, too.”
“Dean... “ she paused and turned her head as much as she could to look back at him. “Can I stay? Go with you this time? I know its dangerous, and I promise not to get in the way. But being without you isn’t working for me… I need to--”
“Yes,” he replied simply, his one-word answer enough reassurance to pause her nervous ramblings. “Whatever you need, sweetheart. Besides, I don’t think I’d let you leave even if you wanted to.”
“Good.”
He felt a stray tear from her eye splash against his arm and found room to hold her even tighter. He wanted her, he always did and this night was no different. But as they lay together in the growing morning light, all Dean wanted to do was hold her to make up for all the nights he hadn’t been able to. His eyes closed, and both of their breathing slowed and found a syncing rhythm with the other.
“Wait… where the hell is Sam? He never came home…” he said suddenly, opening his eyes again and feeling a slight bit of panic at the realization that Sam was MIA.
“Sam’s fine. He’s the one who picked me up from the airport,” she admitted and bit her lip nervously. “I called him when I couldn’t get a hold of you last night. Told him I needed to see you and wanted to surprise you.”
“So that’s where he disappeared to,” Dean snorted, “Remind me to kick his ass for that; damn kid had me worried when I came back and he wasn’t here. Where is he now?”
“In the room next door. Said he had some business to attend to with a cute brunette,” she said and rolled over out of Dean’s embrace so she could face him.
“Well, maybe I’ll say thanks, instead,” he smiled lazily and brushed his thumb against her cheek before sitting up a little to gently kiss her lips.
She simply smiled and nodded, “I think that’s a better idea. Besides, I don’t plan on letting you out of my sight for a while, so let Sam have his fun and we can just lay here if that’s okay. I missed you… more than I thought it was possible to miss a person.”
That nagging ache at the back of his neck was gone and quickly replaced by a lump of feeling that caught in his throat when she looked at him. He loved her in a way that words couldn’t always express and the fact that she came to him when he felt like he needed her most, was the kind of gesture he didn’t realize he craved in return. What they had was real, and it was worth fighting for. It drove him to want to continue to do whatever it took to make sure she knew how much he loved and wanted her.
“I missed you, too,” he rasped, knowing words weren’t his strong suit. It was enough for her body to relax against his as Dean exhaled with a weighted relief once she tucked herself snugly back into his embrace, and they let exhaustion carry them both away.
The coffee shop you worked at gave you lots of opportunities to be with your crush and co-worker, Dean Winchester. He started working there around the same time as you. Your best friend got you to apply when she informed you that they were looking for people who wanted full-time work. When you applied, you thought this was going to be the easiest job in the world: making coffee, heating up food, and cleaning tables.
No one ever told you about Dean and how much he would distract you from your work. No one knew of your crush except for your best friend, Melanie. She would often tease you about how his hair looked or about a certain look he would give you while the two of you were making coffee. It was getting kind of old, but you ignored her most of the time.
Before he started working there, you would get every order right, you wouldn’t zone out, and you always greeted a customer by their name if you could. After he started working there, however, you forgot everything there is to know about working in a coffee shop. If he were to even give you a side glance, you were most definitely spilling whatever it was that was in your hands. If you were dealing with a customer, then you would stutter and blush until the point where the customer got concerned for your health.
Now, to be fair, he was feeling the exact same way as you were. The only difference is that he knew how to hide his feelings better than you can. When he applied, he couldn’t even get you out of his head. He knew he had to get the job if it meant seeing you every single day. The way you smiled, how your eyes would shine if and when you got an order right, and your infectious laugh whenever he did something to earn it.
He didn’t want to tell you how he feels in case you didn't feel the same way. He didn't want the environment to be awkward for everyone until one of you is forced to quit. Instead, he just kept to being your co-worker and friend that you sometimes saw outside of work. He never even had the balls to ask you on a friend date with other people. That’s how scared he was of ruining everything.
The one thing he enjoyed about working with you is how many different kinds of drinks the two of you could make that weren't on the menu. It’s always fun to make new drinks that no one could ever think of so that maybe one day it would be put on the menu. There were so many ingredients and combinations you could try, it would take months before you tried them all.
Just before your break, you were at the cash register taking someone’s orders when Dean walked up next to you with a ready coffee for someone. He announced the person’s name and the kind of drink they ordered with a smile. When they came up and got it, he stumbled a bit which caused him to almost drop the coffee. Luckily, Dean had cat-like reflexes and caught it, handing it to the woman who could only laugh.
“Nice catch,” she complimented before leaving the counter.
“See that, Y/N? I have razor-sharp reflexes,” he grinned.
“Oh yeah, a real MacGyver,” you teased. He laughed as he passed you, but there were so many people behind the counter that he placed his hands on your shoulders as he passed.
“You love it,” he whispered in your ear before going to make another coffee. Blushing, you handed the woman in front of you her change.
“Here you go, I’m sorry about that,” you chuckled.
“Is he your boyfriend?” she asked.
“What? No, he’s not,” you blushed even more.
“He’s cute. You should ask him out. You two would make a cute couple,” she gushed before walking away. Looking back, you saw Dean concentrating as he made the coffee. Whenever he focused really hard, his tongue would stick out of the corner of his mouth just slightly in an adorable way.
“Hello? Miss?” the man in front of you asked when it was his turn. Turning to face the man, you cleared your throat before apologizing.
“I am so sorry. What can I get for you?” you asked, trying to keep your thoughts away from your co-worker. It was going to be hard if he kept talking to you that way, but you would manage.
“Hey, Y/N,” Dean whispered, approaching you on your break. The break room in the back was pretty big, so luckily, there was enough room back there to give you two some sense of privacy with other people in the room.
“What’s up?”
“Taste this. I made something revolutionary. I think you’re going to like it,” he handed you a cup of coffee.
“What is it?”
“Just taste it and let me know what you think,” he giggled like a schoolgirl. Maybe you should have sniffed it first so that you would know there were peanuts before taking a sip. No one knew this about you except for Melanie, but you were deadly allergic to peanuts. If you even got a whiff of them, you would go into shock. Your whole body would start to shut down as hives would break out on your skin. The only thing that could help you was your EpiPen that you kept in your bag at all times in case you got yourself in a situation that you couldn’t get out of. The break room was also the locker room where your things were stored, so your EpiPen wasn’t too far if you needed it.
Taking a sip of the drink, your eyes widened at the taste of peanuts. Doing a spit take, you began coughing intensely as your body began to convulse. Your body slid to the floor, and you couldn’t do anything as it started to shut down. Your lungs started to collapse on each other, which made it very difficult to breathe.
“Holy shit! Y/N!” Dean yelled, kneeling down to try and help you. You couldn’t find the energy to speak, but you looked at your locker with the EpiPen. No one knew it was there except for Melanie.
“Help! Someone help!” Dean shouted. All he could think about was how he poisoned you. Your co-workers rushed into the room, and your best friend pushed past everyone to see what was wrong. As soon as she saw your convulsing figure, she ran to your locker and rummaged through your bag. She grabbed the medicine stick, rushed over to you, and knelt down.
“Move!” she yelled at Dean. She slammed the end of the EpiPen into your thigh, and you were finally able to take a breath for the first time in minutes. The pain started dispersing, and you looked at Dean, who was just about in tears.
“I’m okay, Dean,” you winced as Melanie helped you up.
“Okay? I fucking poisoned you! Holy shit! I am so sorry! I am going to jail for this, aren’t I?” he panicked.
“Someone call 911,” Melanie announced.
“Mel, I’m fine,” you sighed shakily.
“No, Y/N, you need the medics to check you out,” she sighed as she got up to talk to the manager. Dean helped you to your feet before making you sit down at the table.
“I need you to get that drink out of here,” you pointed to it. Dean scrambled to remove it, and when he did, he returned to your side.
“I’m sorry I poisoned you. I swear I didn’t do anything to it. I may have put in too much coffee beans, but that’s about it!”
“Dean, you didn't poison me. I’m deathly allergic to peanuts. It’s not your fault you didn’t know. I should have told you before. I should have sniffed the drink. I mean, the same thing would have happened, but not as severe. I’m sorry for scaring you,” you sighed.
“Are you okay? Do you need some water?”
“Yeah, water is fine,” you nodded. He got up and got you a glass of water, moving your sweaty hair away from your forehead. He started to check your skin to see if you had a temperature, but you moved away from him. “Dean, I’m fine.”
“I poison the love of my life. Y/N, none of this is fine,” he admitted without realizing it.
“Wait what? Love of your life?” you asked just as medics pushed their way into the room. Dean’s eyes widened as the medics forced him to move away from you so they could check you out. Whatever they were doing to you, whatever kinds of questions they were asking, you couldn’t seem to take your eyes off Dean.
And he couldn’t seem to take his eyes off you.
