Don't buy me chocolates..
You're kind,
Sweet like candy
And yes it's true,
It's been an age since I were
A Valentine's
Don't waste flowers on me
I'll wither alongside them
Don't buy me chocolates
I won't eat them
Don't waste this day on me
Find someone
Someone who isn't stuck in the quick sand
Of their own past
Someone who isn't dragged under
Over and over
Someone who has the energy
To actually live
And maybe love
But I'm not this someone
Not now
At least
Maybe, hopefully
I will be someone again
Someday

Three scoops of ice cream Melting faster than springtime candles Hold fast sweet flavors, hold A little tighter, longer even Don’t leave me tired and grievin’ Flavors mix the longer they sit Sit a while, friend Spring is sure to end, but you? And I? Needn’t worry what’s around that bend The sun has has only just begun Peaking its warming head above the skyline Three scoops should be enough Enough for musketeers and for Catholics Why not for this, too Balance sweet and salty Catch my teeth with cold I feel a change inside of me With fear of sidewalk, plopped Dropped but only fears, No tears for close knit dears, as we Strong as three and free Distinct in flavor and our style Together we’re more than worth the while Blue grows the sky, filled with burning Soon we’ll surely muddle as a puddle In the waffle cone bowl, wrapped cautiously with paper Sticking to your fingers Never will you be rid of our sickly sweet selves

I try it sometimes, prayer that is, in secret but I keep noticing I’m doing it. Look, I’ve caught myself. I’m not even a half decent non-believer.

A Burned Bridge
Sand has a funny way of sticking around.
One trip to the beach can leave sand in every corner of your home
It shows up in your sheets, your vacuum, your shower
the seashells and san dollars have since been cleared from my windowsill.
I pulled a blonde hair from the lining of my pillow today and it all came back again.
Sun bleached white strands but the roots were darker, like grey sand beaches in San Diego against the stark of her cold hands on my waist.
And even though my thoughts were not held between her teeth with my bottom lip, I still held the fire she sparked in me in the highest regards, forgetting that I would have to pick up the burned pieces of myself after she was gone.
Gone like how I expected her to end up
Gone like exactly as I saw it from day one
Part of me know how it all would end but for some reason I still let it hurt
Let it manifest into a blaze
A blaze that showed its face in salt water and coconut kisses with a sickly sweet gut feeling, and soft
Soft like her back
Back
Backed into a corner of indecision and panicked ambition l fell hard and I thought she did too.
Not in love.
at least not romantically.
Our souls felt similar
like one star split in two but I forget that while opposites attract, one is positive, and one is negative.
She told me once she felt like glitter when she swam in the ocean
Glitter is a lot like sand
I think it has something to do about being small.
Tiny grains ingraining themselves into the seat of your car and your bedroom floor like independent specks of memories that I’ll forever associate with her.
I can’t look at my living room couch anymore without remembering her curled up there with me.
The shells I moved from my window were not thrown away, just hidden away.
Today my phone said you were typing, but I never received any message
I still hope that you’re going to change your mind and reach out again but I really should be placing any bets when I know that your cards have already been laid on the table and I already know that you cheated
This spark that you ignited inside my chest has burned a hole right through me and now I am left with my own thoughts as the wreckage
I don’t know how to clean up anymore because just like sand
just like glitter
it is impossible to completely remove every last bit of Ash from my life.
