I've got some backstory that I've mulled into being over the last several days lol. readmore cos otherwise it's a very long post

So, Jim is a centaur (as you can see here) and he is off traveling cos he's a prince maybe or just a rep for his community. Regardless, he's doing a lot of work introducing more monsterous races to the general public. That's his gig.
He meets this dead skeleton who's halfway through casting something. he completes the spell for the long dead human and he is revived, brought back to life as Bones, who was a doctor in life and prefers to use his doctor abilities over his new cleric magic but often has no choice. When he casts his skeleton is visible, hence the nickname. So, the undead guy joins the party
Spock the sphinx is guarding a maze, but the maze has fallen to ruin. Bones quizzes him on his job and reveals that Spock isn't one bit happy with his enchanted role, so Jim offers to help him out. Once they free him, Spock swears himself to Jim in thanks. Bones is vaguely annoyed (but secretly very glad to help) that his arguing with Spock at the gate entrance resulted in such a big fucking job to break the enchantment, and has left the argumentative sphinx traveling with them
I reckon Scotty's gotta be like half robot or something. Maybe a wizard who corrupted himself and half turned to stone. Or he turns to stone at night or something (that would be so annoying lol). He and Bones get along because they both use to be human and aren't any longer
Uhura is always fun to make a siren, or something else that sings, but she doesn't like to use that power cos she has far more relevant skills through her work and interests. She, as in canon, is the translator. Hugely diplomatic and Jim comes to rely on her wholeheartedly
I reckon Chekov is also a centaur, or maybe a fawn, but regardless he's like Jim's squire from the start. He was sent on the mission because he used to sneak out to a nearby town so the centaurs were like, well, he's met humans before. he didn't mention he only really went to get laid and his skills are mostly based in flirting. Still useful!
And Sulu I'm really not sure about. It's pretty tempting to make him a plant guy tho! Like, a living plant made of vines and flowers that just amalgamates into a human shape. I think that fucks actually, he can do that. I reckon he's married to, like, oak trees. So every time that pass an oak tree he stops to give his husband a kiss and catch up. Then they'll go through a desert and there's no oaks for a few weeks and he's like :( I want to see Ben
