“... and blood and their black, liquefied guts spilled out of their mouths.” Julius clawed his hands down the length of his face for effect. “They looked like walking corpses, but they still possessed a conscious...and they could recognize the loved ones from their former lives even though they were destined to kill them.” He punctuated with an ill-fitting, caustic laugh.
“To this day, it is best to run from a Revenant than risk that horrid realization.”
Kanna held the stuffed dragon toy closer to her chest, her form trembling faintly as Julius described the gruesome circumstances of the Revenant, sparing not a single horrific detail to the child. Her pupils were blown wide with fear, but the pout written on her expression clearly demonstrated her attempt to feign even the slightest bravery. When the tale came to and end, she felt a bit of relief washed over her. After all, once the scary story reached its end, there was no longer a reason to fear. That is, until Julius mentioned “to this day.” A new fear took hold of her and she squeezed the dragon doll even closer to her, if that was truly possible, before her voice stuttered out,
“H-huh? You mean they’re actually r-real!?” She asked with an alarmed expression.
