Positive Steps

Dear Readers,

Between October and February of last year I drew over a hundred pages of comics, distributed them monthly, and then I kind of disappeared.

For a short while I lived on a subtropical island populated by wild hermit crabs and motley community of humans who for various reasons found themselves living under tent and tarps among aloe plants and Christmas trees. I toured cross country with a play about giant mutant cats preforming in places like Arcosanti, an intentional community in the desert of Arizona and a gargantuan church turned skate park, the Church of Skatan. I attended a puppeting retreat on an island of the coast of Seattle where I took clowning workshops with beautiful people from across the US, Porto Rico, France, and Israel.

Since February of this year I have driven across the country six times and I’m about to do it again, but I realize it’s not fair to those of you who have been waiting for the second season of Free Money or the collected edition of Top of the Line. And I gotta admit the binge/purge comix work ethic I’ve developed is probably a detriment to my physiological health and my craft, which is why the first thing I’m installing in my new home is a work space of my own invention. A piece of furniture that can transform a bed, into a dinner table, an angled light table and back into a bed.

It might not sound like a game changer, but for me it’s the an important step toward a more balanced life. A mobile studio to allow me to work and travel consistently through the year, to draw from the real landscape of America in my cartooning, and hopefully bring my work to a new level and to new readers like you.
