After years of neglect, the Spruce Mountain firetower was refurbished over the past few years by members of the Student Conservation Association and the state Department of Environmental Conservation and reopened to the public in October. Climb the 75 feet up to the tower's cab — or even just high enough to see over the treeline — and you'll get views east into Vermont and north over the Adirondacks. In addition to refurbishing the tower, work on the mountain included a reroute of the trail from private land onto state-owned Wilcox Lake Wild Forest and land owned by Saratoga PLAN.
