Haine for @spvcekind !
spvcekind replied to your post “genuine question but who's going to tell white kpop fans about 느그오빠한남”
...Isn’t that a WOMAD term
oh, fuck, yeah, 100%, literally every person who uses it unironically deserves to be on your shit list, but there’s an underlying frustration re: the kpop industry and. just. the korean patriarchy that got co-opted in the ugliest possible terms by terfs in a way that non-korean kpop fans would have no way of understanding if they weren’t steeped eyebrow-deep in the bullshit 24/7 like most korean women are?
like, that’s what i mean by “shitty discourse” because underneath the terfism there is a genuine discussion to be had there about the kpop industry that only recently surfaced in the international public eye bc of seungri and the burning sun incident, of how the kpop industry by definition is difficult to be “woke” because the entire thing basically revolves around misogyny and exploitation of women and capitalism in the purest form and so shilling for your oppas and pretending any of the mainstream folk are capable of being more “woke” than anyone else is a farce and that’s where i’m assuming (i’m being very generous here) the “응 너희 오빠 한남" sentiment started from, BUT because we cannot have a fucking civil discussion without some of the loudest and most vile members of society trying to co-opt the conversation we now have. fucking womad.
and the way discussion of feminism on social media particularly twitter has become more or less synonymous with terfism in korea is such a nasty can of worms that frankly depresses me too much to get into right now but hey if white kpop fans really want to keep fetishizing us and don’t know how to fucking behave then i say it’s time they drink the flavour-aid with the rest of us
