Just love me a gal in a suit
Darkness never sustains even though sometimes it feels like it might
Doctor Who
Soooo I decided to make a neat little wallpaper
Cause we’re all super gayyy for 13 in a suit~
Everyone’s screwed when she throws down those +4s.
I mean I know they didn't actually, but the doctor thought they destroyed gallifrey for like 1000 years soo
[Doctor Who, Spyfall pt. 2, Chris Chibnall, 2020]
Okay but the Doctor using that graphics program on a laptop touchpad gave me physical pain
I find it interesting that Spyfall pt. 2 absolutely unintentionally benefited from the fact that Master and Doctor had been written as men through most of the run. I'm not saying that writing them as men only was the right thing to do, quite the opposite, the news of a first female Doctor restored my interest in the show and I'm still salty that she didn't get to have a female Master. And, of course, Time Lords don't give a fuck about gender but the thing is, showrunners still live in the society™ and they used to make episodes about confrontation between two men, establishing them as equals who mirror each other (I'm afraid that wouldn't have been the case if either Master or Doctor had been a woman from the start cause gender biases would have come into play; after all, the majority of writers have been male so far).
That's why I loved Master/Doctor relationship in Spyfall, it didn't remind me of real world problems, unlike most of the pairings with the implied top man and bottom woman, which I usually hate (they are not necessarily wrong, to each their own kink, I'm just annoyed at this dynamic being treated as the default, and even if it's well-written, it's not my cup of tea).
And I'm happy that Chibnall had the guts not to soften anything, Master/Doctor relationship has always been fucked-up and dysfunctional, that's what makes it interesting. I especially loved it when Ten, this brilliant person who almost always saved the day turned into a needy mess in the presence of the Master because of all the guilt and trauma. On the one hand, I'd love to see it explored with Thirteen, on the other hand, I'm not sure this particular dynamic would work with her as she hasn't really been given chance to show off and be powerful. Chibnall, let her be the hero!
As for the destruction of Gallifrey, I couldn't care less, I didn't like the idea of bringing it back at all, so I kind of glad to see it's gone again lol. I just hope that Chibnall won't drive himself into the corner with all those high stakes cause I remember Season's 11 great set ups with anticlimactic resolutions too well.
