I made a comic of a scene from the new season of Squid Game that touched my heart... Living in Brazil, which has one of the highest rates of trans deaths worldwide, and seeing this series made in my parents' home, South Korea, an extremely conservative country, this scene really resonated with me. In 2021, South Korea's first trans soldier, Byun Hee-soo, was tragically found dead in her apartment. That's why the existence of Hyun-Ju's character and her story is so crucial for visibility and rights of the Korean trans community, who still face marginalization today. This particular scene, where Geum-Ja, an elderly woman, has this heartwarming conversation with Hyun-ju, moved me so much that I wanted to recreate it in my style. Here's hoping for positive changes in Korean society, where one day real trans actresses can appear in major shows like this without facing backlash 💜

오징어 게임 시즌2 한 장면을 만화로 그렸어요... 전 세계에서 트랜스젠더 사망률이 가장 높은 브라질에 살고 있는 제가, 제 부모님의 고향인 한국, 이 매우 보수적인 나라에서 만든 이 드라마를 보면서 이 장면이 제 마음에 깊이 와닿았습니다. 2021년, 한국 최초의 트랜스젠더 군인이었던 변희수 하사가 안타깝게도 자택에서 숨진 채 발견되었죠. 그래서 현주라는 캐릭터의 존재와 그녀의 이야기는, 아직도 소외되어 있는 한국의 트랜스젠더 커뮤니티의 가시성과 권리를 위해 매우 중요합니다. 특히 이 장면에서 나이 드신 금자 씨가 현주와 나누는 따뜻한 대화는 저를 너무나 감동시켜서 제 스타일로 다시 그려보고 싶었어요. 앞으로 한국 사회에 긍정적인 변화가 일어나서, 언젠가는 실제 트랜스젠더 배우들이 이런 큰 작품에 출연해도 비난받지 않는 날이 오기를 바랍니다 💜
