I just found out what happened: rest in peace to Squidkid1111, a Black cosplayer who brought so much creativity and joy through their work, but was tragically taken from this world because of antiblackness in the community.

This is what we’ve been saying all along:

The fandom is too white‑centric.

There is a blatant double standard.

Black fans and creators are mocked, mistreated, and have their work undermined.

When we build our own spaces more stricter, you act surprised instead of reflecting on why we had to.

Squidkid1111 was a bright spark in the cosplay community, celebrated for their artistry, humor, and dedication to their craft. Yet they faced relentless racist harassment by others by being told their skin tone didn’t “match” the characters they portrayed. This kind of cruelty is not isolated; it is part of a larger pattern of antiblackness that continues to poison fandom spaces relentlessly that we been saying all along..

None of you (White and Non-Black POC) have proven yourselves to be trustworthy or good people in fandom and otherwise, and this heartbreaking loss makes that undeniable.

Let their soul rest in peace and soar high 🕊️

I had never even heard of squidkid1111 before today. I'm not really even into cosplay at all. But I do want/feel the need to say something.

Why is it that some people make it their life's mission to destroy the life of a black person when they see that they're happy? What the fuck have we done to you except enjoy ourselves in plain view?

A bunch of allyuh gonna play you sympathetic towards Squid's death for a period, yeah, but I wonder how long you're going to keep them in your memory.

Are you going to put in a genuine effort into fighting fandom racism and to actually learn or you gonna let this one die too until the next Black person comes along and kills themself?

Like ppl gonna remember this for a week or a month or 2 but how many of these people posting their sympathies are actually going to actively speak up and support Black creators experiencing racism within their fandom? Do you plan on remaining complicit?

I'm saying that I wish people actually cared. But fandom ain't really gonna change, is it? Because racism in fandom is seen as a culture war rather than a genuinely pervasive evil. Caring about it is optional.

AU INFODUMP

MCYT AU where Hypixel was a former runaway street kid, now-adult-wanderer of the servers that was escaping a fighting ring (shit happens on the road in some servers) when he found that the fighting ring people had kidnapped some street kids to make fighters, but only one was alive yet from the 'training ' after just one month, so when he escaped, he broke into the cell, scooped the little one up, and took the kid with him.

The boy -six years old at the time- was Technoblade.

Hypixel ran until he couldn't run anymore. Techno was already passed out and almost in a coma from malnourishment and maltreatment, so he barely felt it when Hypixel (gritting his teeth) burned the brand off and then quickly used the healing potion he stole, then scraped the skin around his own and bandaged it (he's only stolen one, and he used it for the boy).

Techno spent the next years being raised by Hypixel. He truly considers the man his dad just as much as Hypixel calls him his son.

Hypixel was a wandering adventurer guy who ran away from a neglectful home as a kid and became pretty good at fighting and tracking, and stuff like that, while being a homeless hobo, though he is a good guy and all, he's helped people anonymously before and shit bc he's like that.

Think wandering secretly chaotic good ranger-ninja guy lmao. Your average 'normal wanderer but cracked'. He passed a lot of that to his son....

Selectively mute little Techno's first word he ever said to Hypixel, not long after an incident where Hypixel freely calls the boy *his* boy, was '.....Da?' one day after waking up.

- They find Grian soon after, having been abandoned a year before on the streets. Hypixel conviced the little red-winged avian to let him get close to help with a bruised arm and well.... yeah. Grian is three years older than Tech. - They find Squid, same age as Techno, digging around in the trash and... yeah. Hypixel has twins now.

- and Hannah, older than the twins but younger than Grian... uh. Hypixel may have intervened in some shit parents trying to sell their kid to traffickers.

From his years of running about on his own and gaining common sense Hypixel is aware how to deal with little guys and is good with kids, even traumatized ones, since former street kid stuff. He's super gentle but will enable their chaos.

He will not let him accompany him on his 'imma go ambush some slave traders' detours but spars with sword demons Techno and Grian until the little dudes can literally beat him, they be naturals (and Squid and Hannah ain't half bad either).

He enables Squid's potato obsession.

He does not bat an eye when Techno gets chaos and fire magic, Grian gets wind and Watcher magic, Squid gets water and a bit of storm magic, and Hannah gets plant magic. Elementals are not that uncommon in the servers. Hypixel himself has lightning and storm.

He teaches them how to make rockets and TnT and how to fite a titan ravager and stuff. He is that papa. But he'll also comfort them after their nightmares and let them hide under his cloak and calm their panic attacks very well. He will let them run around and hide from him in some obscure hiding spot in the bushes but the minute they conk out in same hiding spot... well, they wake up in the current den all tucked in and stuff.

They all call him dad.

Also did i mention that Hypixel, known on the streets as the Storm or just Storm, is a younger half-brother of Herobrine and Steve? yeah he's the wayward one and neither of the older two were around much as kids and Hype's caretakers were not good, so kid ran away.

He is an Admin as well. The Council of Admins has him labelled as THAT ONE.

By now, he's just keeping 'hidden' (not hellbent on it nowadays, just dodging but not running) for the pure fun of it, and according to the kids, watching Herobrine crash out after Hype uses enough power for the older Stormblood to sense it and show up, but Hypixel gets out of the server, is very funny.

HB and Steve don't know that the infamous 'Storm'  and the 'Stormlings' is their missing little brother and the four feral gremlins he took in. When the kids got older, Hypixel let them join his little.... eh, attacking traffickers, doing stuff to bad gangs, getting dragon hunters, exposing bad admins, that sort of stuff,

And they have got the nicknames the Watcher (Grian, he still half-Watcher here, but the Watchers aren't evil and one of them is Grian's bio father), the Kraken (Squid), the Blade (Techno) and the Thorn (Hannah).

All the kids also got Storm amulets so they get a bit of storm magic as well.

random tidbits of this AU bc it's been in my head for AGES

- Grian still has Watcher powers here too. that's what i meant by void magic. he uh, has purple energy powers, wings and Knows Things or Sees Things sometimes?

- THE KIDS ARE INFAMOUS ON BEDWARS AND SKYWARS SERVERS.

- Storm and the kids (and friends) have an inter-server groupchat and it sees chaos a lot.

- 'Evil X' (from Hermitcraft) (i hc his real name is Xylias) is not really evil, he's just a problem child and Xisuma didn't know their parents were shitty to him(at least he didn't know back then), he is now hiding from Xisuma, his older brother for years now, he and Hype met as kids and are like cousins, they very much bonded over the whole hiding from older siblings thing. He's the funcle... and the chaotic variable. Grian had so much fun pretending not to know anything the one time Xy showed up on Hermitcraft, but kept getting away before Xisuma could catch him.
