I am backkk!! Made it through another 3month field season in the Yukon. My last field season with the squirrels actually.. because I got a new job!!!! Back at the zoo, doing conservation research, hiking mountains for work! Another dream job. I’m not sure how I’ve gotten so lucky.

Anyway, I got back last week, turned 30 and went skiing with s on my bday. Conditions were perfect and we made breakfast sandwiches and mimosas in the parking lot. Then left the next day to go back to Canada for a wedding in Toronto. I’m finally home from that, wrapped up at the squirrels and now I have a whole week to enjoy before the new job.. so I’m off to ski again.

I have a friend staying the week and it’s been pretty fun. He’s chill, but it also means a break from my routine and I desperately want my routine back. My mom was here over the holidays and that was a lot, then I had an intense 80hr wilderness first responders class (which was so cool but also alot), and now my friend is here and it’s still alot. I just want a day to do nothing. Or a day to do alot and work out and play in the mountains, mostly I just need a day or two to myself.

My friend is leaving soon so I’m enjoying my time for now and then I have one month of routine before vaca and more friends visiting and then a 3 month field season I am not mentally prepared for… i guess it all just feels like alot..

Been a real shitty few days. Anxiety is through the roof and my work is stressing me out.

But there have been good times sprinkled throughout, so here are a few moments of the past week that has made me smile

Hi hi

Been a quick min. Got back from Vancouver last weekend, it’s been a busy summer of traveling. Everyone we know is either getting married or about to be engaged, seems like it’s just that time in life and it’s really exciting.

Came down with a weird stomach bug that’s been lingering. It comes and goes and im a bit unsettled with how I’ve been feeling. Like my body is not doing great and idk why, is it something I’m eating or one of my meds? It’s clear I need to change something, but what?

Anyway. I have a small stretch of a few weeks home before I head back to the wild Yukon. I’m excited for my next adventure but I’m even more excited to spend the next three weeks home with my pets, friends and s.

Really frustrated lately by my inability to follow plans. Like every night I make to do lists for the next day, I envision what I want my day to look like, I feel motivated to wake up and do the things. But then I actually wake up and almost immediately go off script. Like yesterday I planned to go for an oil change and ended up coming home with a new snake tank instead. Or today I was going to go into the office but realized on my way that I forgot something and went back home to get it, except I never left again so now Im just WFH all day. Or I keep telling myself I am going to go for a run.. except I have yet to go for a run. The frustrating part is I am still being productive. My snake really needed a new tank, there is no one in the office today and no reason to go in, and I may not have gone for a run but I did work out for almost 2 hours yesterday. Work wise I keep doing this too. I have so many tasks to complete before the field season but no priority for what to do first, so I write down a list of what I want to accomplish but then I spend hours doing a diff task. I guess Im frustrated bc at the end of the day I just keep thinking of all the things I said I was going to do but didnt and its hard to focus on the shit I actually got done.

Had a very low key weekend. After two vacations back to back I desperately needed to be home and lazy. I only left my house to take maya to the dog park. Also cleaned, unpacked, did a ton of laundry and worked out for an hour each day. I finally made our save the dates (took so much longer than expected) and did my taxes.

First full week back after vacation and I think I feel as ready as I ever will to tackle work again. The job I applied for at the zoo closes it’s applications today.. that means I should hear back soon right??

Not working out this morning but am planning a nice long run later today. Happy Monday!

I think I have too many hobbies and activities 😅

15 mile bike ride on Saturday, took the pup out for a mini hike, started horseback riding again. Was actually a pretty low key weekend and I spent lots of time at home. It’ll be my last weekend home until October :(( this summer went by wayyy too fast and now I have one week till I’m back in the field.

I’m trying to be excited for this field season, and not just a nervous wreck. There’s so much potential for adventure, I absolutely love that I can travel for work and I’m potentially even driving from the Yukon back to the US. I would follow the Rocky Mountains the whole way down and stop in some absurdly beautiful hiking spots.

But it’s also a daunting endeavor. Being away from my fiancé when he just became my fiancé. Leaving my pets, and ofc all my hobbies and routines until I get back. At least it won’t be for 3months this time (or hopefully ever again)

Feels so good to be getting back to routine! Had an hour long workout yesterday and today. Funny how when I’m out of routine just working out 20mins feels like a struggle, but once I’m back an hour almost feels too short. It’s by far the best part of my day.

I was supposed to go into the office today - for no reason I just said I was going to go- but I didn’t. There’s no one there, and although there is ac I have really been enjoying working from home lately. Got a new home office set up and I have all these cute pets around.

Grateful for a job that is so flexible. I’ve come a long way in this role and I’m proud of myself for slowly improving. No matter how slowly, I am growing, I am doing my best.

Anyway, it’s way too fcking hot to do anything outside lately which is a bummer. Tomorrow should maybe be cool enough for a bike ride in the morning. It’s not even as hot here as other places. Just sucks summer is turning into this inferno and the planet is dying and all, but imma try to enjoy the ride while I’m on it.
