What if you like a darker tone? how will it affect your career?
I don't think that the preference will have too much of a negative affect on your career. Though if you intend to pursue a career as a clarinetist in an orchestra, certain orchestras have different sound qualities that they prefer over others; some may have a 'brighter' sound than others or a 'darker' sound it really depends on the orchestra.
But really what matters is if your tone is flexible so that you can easily adjust and blend to different colors that different musicians/chamber ensembles/orchestras have. So just keep an open mind to other's sounds as you develop your tone. Also keep in mind than tone intersects with other qualities such as articulation, clarity of sound, etc. It's great to have personality in your tone so long as it can adapt!
