You’re no stranger to studying people. You tend to collect facts about them like an official dossier, or a catalogue, filling up the filing cabinet in your head. Whenever someone poses a threat, you collect facts all the faster, and the algorithm sets to work churning out the best defense mechanisms against them. It’s a lot of worry, but it helps keep the paranoia at bay.

Maybe you shouldn’t be people-watching and zoning out while babysitting Eight, but it’s not like she cares.

You glance over to her just in case, since watching over her are your orders, per Cuttlefish. Speaking of, Eight had the dubious honor of being designated a threat before you even knew her. It’s kind of annoying, because it was a lot of useless, needless catalouging.

The girl isn’t imposing, shorter and frailer than you. She’s a mediocre fighter as far as you’re concerned, or at least more concerned with Inkling frivolities than a good soldier should be. She doesn’t talk a lot, and you’re convinced she’s just repeating others when she does. You don’t remember how she beat you, and you would rather not, even though the fact remains — an insult, a shallow bruise, insignificant but a pain nonetheless. You have no sympathy, no concern, no interest in her — not even animosity, besides the belief that she would be better off dead, contributing nothing as she did.

She looks the part of the traditional Octoling soldier, so maybe that’s why. That weird pulse of flight-response still hasn’t disappeared from your chest, even after all these years. You don’t want her carved open, at least, so that’s an improvement.

Mostly, anyway.

You look back towards the crowd, check-up complete. If it weren’t for the fact that all these new eyes were on you, you would’ve killed her a long time ago without batting an eye — maybe it’s in Octavio’s favor then, you muse, for Agent Three to date an Octoweapon.
