Wendy had this idea to do this cover for months. She just kept going back and forth between songs, until she settled for one that was fairly relevant but can still be given a twist. Deciding who to do it with was simple enough. If Wendy was going to show off someone, she was going to show off Seulgi. Besides, Nova was doing such a bad job of showing them all off anyway. She decided to follow in the footsteps of the other girls and try posting her own cover.
Lucky for her, Seulgi was onboard with the plan, so Wendy had gone on to arrange the song accordingly. Wendy had chosen an English song for two reasons: the first was because she hardly got to sing in English anymore; the second was because she wanted to reach a wider audience than the one they have now. Bonus points if someone shows the cover to the actual singers. Then again, as if Shawn Mendes or Camila Cabello will care about two random Korean girls who aren’t super popular... even if they’re under the same label as the world-famous Madtown.
Besides, “Señorita” was a song that had a completely different color from what they’re currently showing, not to mention what they are about to show. Wendy will be living some sort of nightmare as long as she will be seen acting like a tween girl by the time she presents her thesis next year. While Wendy found the way the original singers perform it too “in your face heterosexual”, it was still a song catchy enough to get stuck in her head.
In between come back preparations, Wendy plays around with the song’s arrangement to suit both Seulgi and herself better. She finally gets to a sound she actually likes and presents it to Seulgi. Once she has her best friend’s go signal, they then choose a day to record the song and another day to record the video to go with it. For the first time in forever, she got to be actually back on the producer’s chair, so Wendy was determined to make this count.
On the day of shooting the video itself, the atmosphere was generally a lot lighter and there was less pressure to do well. It felt like a bit of forever and ending too soon. At least Wendy and Seulgi got to be styled in a way that suited the song, rather than being close to their upcoming concept. She would hate to imagine the sheer mismatch that would have occurred. Wendy had initially planned to play guitar during the cover, but then they had a better idea that involved a bit of acting and making flirty eyes at the cameras. Honestly, Wendy doesn’t mind, as long as the final outcome finally shows off Seulgi’s charms properly.
After all, this is meant to be a relaxed setting and just something to entertain both themselves and the fans while waiting for them to promote again.
