St Cuthbert's Church Thetford by Tony Via Flickr: The earliest parts of this church date from the 13th century and include the south doorway and piscina in the chancel. However, the church was heavily restored in the 19th century with the tower being rebuilt in 1852 and more general work being carried out in 1862.

On a Saturday late in Melbourne’s summer, Sarah and Ben tied the knot at St Cuthbert’s Chapel in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges. efore a photo shoot at Emerald Lake Park and on to an awesome reception at The Independent Gembrook – one of our favourite restaurants in the hills 🙂
Sarah and Ben definitely opted for a low-key approach to photography of their preparations. Following on from that, we headed off to the wonderful little St Cuthbert’s Chapel. Initially an outside wedding was planned, Melbourne was playing her usual summer tricks of “possible showers and thunderstorms”… an inside option was definitely the way to go!
Then it was off to Emerald Lake Park for some bridal party shots before we would our way back to Gembrook, for some more photos and an amazing reception at The Independent Gembrook.
Congratulations Sarah and Ben – hope you had a brilliant day and enjoyed every minute 🙂

St Cuthbert’s, where my earliest recorded ancestor, William Herbert or Harbut, of probable Irish Traveller stock, married Loomie Toogood in the 1870s, in a double ceremony which saw his twin sister marry her twin brother.
- Unfortunately, this was a little too soon for dentist Edwin Cowper’s Ringing Dinging Machine to celebrate the occasion with a carillion of Plain Bob triples.
While we were wandering round, and before I could take a pic of the ancient font, the base of which is made of the local Frosterly marble (not actually a marble, but rather a black limestone containing fossil corals from the Carboniferous period), we were evicted from the church, which should have been closed.
