Noch mal Stø
Nun sind wir in Stø. Eine Landspitze weit draußen im Atlantik. Und der Strand ist nicht schlecht. Nur 7 Grad ist nicht das beste Wetter für den Strand

Whale watching in Lofoten
We trundled back to Svolvær for the vans operation the following day, pulling up on the outskirts next to a beautiful fjord Theo was stunned speechless as stretched his legs, turned to the water, and witnessed a Minke whale breaking through the still waters. I caught his face as he turned to me, opening and closing his mouth with no words, pointing towards the disrupted fjord with a look of amazement plastered over his face. I had missed it, and was shouting 'What is it?! What did you see?!'. At this point we weren't sure what it could be, a dolphin? No, they're not usually alone. A seal? No, it was far too big. A whale? Don't be ridiculous! Surely not? We stood in giddy excitement at the waters edge, willing the mystery animal to show its face. Not long after we saw it again, and again. This animal was unperturbed by the grinning fools tracking its every move. We decided it must be a whale, it's far too large to be anything else. The next day we found an online article covering the Minke whale residing in this very fjord, it had been here for a few weeks, how fortunate for us to see it not 50feet from where we stood. Vanlife achievement unlocked: spot whale through your sliding door.
Belthy dropped at the garage for her repairs, we got to work in the local cafe writing blog and magazine articles. We'd been planning on embarking on a whale safari, but having already seen a whale we weren't too keen to part with a lot of money, especially with the seas and weather becoming increasingly grim. We opted to drive to Andenes along the Whale Watching Route, maybe we'd watch some more water mammals from the comfort of our home? Belthy apparently fixed we left the garage and began our journey out of Lofoten when suddenly the Glow Lamp of Doom began flashing, again. Immediately turning round we arrived at the garage 10 minutes after closing time, everyone had gone home, lucky for them as we were seething with rage after having parted with 10,000kr for the problem to still be here. One more night in Lofoten couldn't hurt anyone.
The next morning we paid our final visit to VW, where it transpired the brake switch now needed replacing. In no mood to be pushed around any longer we put our foot down, refusing to pay for anything other than the parts. This didn't stop them from replacing brake lights without asking, then demanding we pay. We're both capable of changing the lights, we even carry spare bulbs, so then came even more negotiations where they said they'd remove the new bulbs, ridiculous. We eventually left, not paying for the unwanted bulbs although they were still intact, confident we'd never step foot in that garage again. Collectively we don't know much about mechanics, but we know enough. End of boring garage story. The roads around Andenes held some magnificent scenery and we spent our first night under the watchful gaze of an impressive mountain bathed in fog. Trapped inside due to heavy rain we vowed to explore more tomorrow.
We journey on to Stø where the only locals we saw where the gulls huddled together on the rocks, battling the powerful winds along with the roughest seas we'd ever seen. Driving along the winding road out of town we encountered an Otter strolling up the road, completely at ease with our noisy van behind it. I leapt out of the van as I randomly had Theos other camera in my hand, I thought I'd be able to get a decent photo although (as you can see) Theo dove out the van, stalked the Otter and got some wonderful images. After walking 100feet or so up the road it took a right turn into the grass before working it's way over the hill. This was another speechless moment, what a wildlife packed couple of days. We parked on the outskirts of Nyksund, a quirky town with lots of character. The sun cast a warm glow over the ocean as the rain stopped and started, unsure whether to keep us inside again. As darkness descended the rainclouds departed, enabling Theo to shoot the iridescent Aurora across the twilight sky, the only thing missing was some more whales but you can't have it all!
