Blessed Imbolc and happy feast day to St. Brigid, merry be the promise of spring!

Calendar: February 1st is the feast day of St. Brigid, the patron saint of Ireland. On this day, if you happen to find even a single flower blooming, it's said you should call out "Brigid, Brigid" to her. This tradition is said to bring spring one step closer. 　This year too, this special day has arrived. The illustration is as always by Fanny Corry.

A bit late on this one! I already did my celebrating at home, lamented the fact that I couldn’t make a cross of my own (as we are currently buried under 1-2ft of snow and there are no rushes to be found), then remembered that I have the power of ART and can DRAW St. Brigid’s cross!

I haven’t made one since I was small, and it was just with yarn and popsicle sticks, so I do think I’d like to make one once everything thaws again if I can help it.

Anyway blessed Imbolc to all who celebrate, agus Lá Fhéile Bríde sona duit!

A house warming gift for my sister @itsbrigidbooks <3 <3 <3 We're collabing on a series of Kitchen Witches for the family with hers based off of St. Brigid/ Celtic Goddess Brigid., but she didn't know I was making one for her 😘😘

I'm trying to paint more to give myself a break from all the digital artwork I do all day with storyboarding, so this was a good challenge. Sketch was digital and then I printed it to do a graphite trace onto the wooden panel (from Michaels, sanded down the rough edges and used a transparent gesso first), but also did a digital color pass first to give me a clear path. Painted with acrylics and kept the sketch taped to the back to trace the small details back on later.

Further WIP stages. If anyone has secret tips on how to make acrylic paint smoother please let me know lol though that doesn't seem to really be the point of the medium BUT its all I feel comfortable with right now.

Welcoming St. Brigid into our home.

I don’t always do things by exact dates, but often take my cues from nature. With so much of my practice having Slavic roots I associate the coming holy days with Perun and thunder—so the thunderstorm last night told me it was time to start!

Step 1 — hanging a Brigid cross at our front door to invite her in.

Brigid crosses are also associated with thunder, and were said to protect from thunder and lightning.

One of my fav stories about St. Brigid is her cursing her brother after he was a dick about losing her bride price over her vow of chastity~
