Revelations // St. Evans
TAGGED: Sam Evans and Jesse St. James
LOCATION: Jesse's apartment, New York
TIME FRAME: Sunday 21st July
GENERAL NOTES: Jesse finds out that Sam and Quinn have been lying for the last week.
Jesse: Jesse had just gotten done with the matinee show and had the rest of the day off to do whatever he wanted. Instead of going straight to Rachel's place, he went back to his own to take care of some things. The weather was just way too hot and he figured he'd grab some more weather appropriate clothes to leave at Rachel's place to make the going back and forth a lot easier. When he got to his building, he had pulled his keys out to approach his door and paused at the sight of someone already there. No way. "Sam?" he asked in slight disbelief. He remembered him saying that he'd be in town, but it was still a surprise to see him there. When he was sure it was his best friend, he wasted no time and rushed over to pull him into a true bro hug that had been a long time coming. "How are you doing, man? Wait... let me unlock the door so we're not here in the hallway catching up," he said, showing him his keys and unlocking the door.
Sam: laughed when Jesse turned up, his arm wrapping around Jesse to hold him tight for their bro hug. He balanced the bag of food in his other arm as carefully as he could do, smiling all the while. "Well, man, I brought lunch. You got time to chill with me and eat?" He hoped he would have and had made sure to pick a nice little selection of food so hopefully he could have picked enough things to satisfy them both. So, when the door was unlocked he followed Jesse in, grinning as he looked around. "About time I got to see this place, man. I like it. So... seriously, if you don't have time to eat it's cool but I wanted to, you know, get in some bro time if I could. It's been too long." Entirely too long, in his opinion. He'd not seen him in person since long before the shooting and truthfully, ever since he'd wanted to get the chance to hang out with his friend.
Jesse: "Definitely. I totally have time. I just finished the show for the day and we don't have one tonight," he explained as he dropped his keys on the coffee table he had by the couch. "Make yourself at home. It's not much, but it's been my place since I moved out here." He took the bag from his hands and set it down by the couch to start unpacking for them. "Whatever it is you got, it smells awesome," he muttered, now realizing that he hadn't eaten since before the show earlier. "So, how have things been with you and Quinn?" he asked as he went to the refrigerator to grab some drinks.
Sam: smiled as he went to sit down as Jesse directed, settling in and trying to help unpack the food that he'd bought. "I've never had Thai so I figured this is New York, I'm gonna try it. So I got Thai. I don't know what most of it is but I figured it looked nice when other people ordered it, so it'd be good to try." He was pleased that he'd managed to time this so well, on a day where they wouldn't need to rush too much with Jesse not having a show in the evening. At the mention of Quinn, Sam's cheeks lightly tinged with red, his eyes brightening with pride. At the mere mention of her name, Sam felt pride, such was his love for his wife. "Things have been awesome, man. Really. How 'bout you and Rachel?"
Jesse: Jesse looked back and caught the look on his face at the mention of Quinn. He was sure he looked the same when it was Rachel he was talking about. Then he asked about her and he could only smile. "It's going good. Right now we're playing mom and dad to our cats who are expecting kittens," he explained as he walked over to hand Sam a bottle of water. "We don't know when..." he started, but trailed off at the sight of the ring on Sam's finger as he took the bottle from him. "What's that?"
Sam: chuckled at the mention of the cats and, reaching out towards Jesse, took the bottle of water from him. Of course, not used to having to hide his ring, Sam reached out with his left hand, not aware of the fact that it made it obvious to Jesse that he now wore a ring there. "Well, it's always cool to have a lil' family. Even if they're fluffy cats. That's great, man." And, opening up the bottle, Sam was bringing it to his lips when he looked at Jesse, pausing a moment in confusion. "What's what?"
Jesse: was pretty excited about the kittens being born, to be honest. He wasn't sure what they were going to do with them, but he was excited nonetheless. But then he spotted that ring on Sam's finger and he remembered all the stupid drama that had been going around from anonymous inquirers trying to start drama between them over some lie about Sam getting married. But was it a lie? "That ring on your finger..." His eyebrows furrowed a little. "Sam... you did it, didn't you?"
Sam: took a drink from the bottle but was soon holding it, mid air, frozen in reaction. Shit. He'd spotted the ring. Sam hadn't thought it through and Jesse had spotted the evidence of what he and Quinn had done. Giving a look down to the simple wedding band on his ring finger, he lowered the water bottle to the table and put his hands on to his thighs, awkwardly rubbing them. "I can explain..." It wasn't a denial. It was his way of saying yes and acknowledging that he'd lied a lot this last week. Now he had to explain himself.
Jesse: just stood there waiting for some sort of answer because he honestly didn't know what to say right now. Had his best friend completely lied to him and everyone else all week? If not for the drama going on, he would have assumed it was any other ring that he had just accidentally slipped on the wrong finger, but this made it perfectly clear. Then he spoke about explaining and that just confirmed it even more. "Wow..." he muttered before sitting down on a space on the coffee table. "Explain away, then," he finally said.
Sam: looked down at his ring again, and then back at Jesse, his hands settling on his thighs. It was out there; Jesse now knew that he and Quinn had gotten married in secret. Without people knowing aside from the Evans family. Lies everywhere, lies to everyone that they cared about. "I wanted to tell you but I knew if I did... look, I know you support whatever I choose to do and I knew you'd support this. But Blaine wouldn't. He might say now that he would but he's made me feel so stupid so many times because I've known Quinn is the girl I want to marry. And he already gets super weird about us being friends. If I told one of you and not the other then he'd freak out either way. I was trying to protect Blaine and in a way, you. 'Cause you... Blaine means the world to me but if it comes down to it? You're my best friend. And I don't want you guys to never get along because of me because you're both big parts of my life. So... I didn't tell either of you. But me and Quinn, we decided to do it and keep it between us so we could just enjoy it without the people who we know are gonna judge us, making us feel bad because we chose to do something now rather than wait a few years." He hoped that it was a good enough explanation but he also knew that he would still have questions to answer, and things to make up for. He only hoped it hadn't negatively affected his friendship with Jesse.
Jesse: tried not to look too disgruntled over the fact that his best friend had lied to him and he knew he wasn't going to be the only one pissed off when it got out to everyone. He kept his eyes down as he listened to Sam's explanation. Even if he was kind of pissed that he would lie to him, he knew it had to be for a good reason. His best friend just wouldn't do that unless it was for a good reason. When he brought up the mess with Blaine, he sighed and nodded. Hearing him say that he was his best friend, though, made some of the anger fade away. "I guess I get that," he finally muttered. "Kind of made myself look a little stupid when I insisted that you weren't married. Don't know how they knew to begin with, actually," he said with a little confused look on his face. "Sucks that I couldn't see it, but the day was about the two of you. Was it everything you both wanted it to be?"
Sam: shrugged as he commented on people knowing, he himself unaware how people had known already. "I don't know. I'm sorry. I didn't like lying but we wanted some time just to work it all out. We wanted to get married and a few down the line, 5 or maybe 10, we'll do the white wedding day and renew our vows. That's the day I want you up there with me, man. I had Stevie... we kept it just my folks and the kids and it was... perfect. I realized you really don't need the flashy day if you've got the girl. But, you know, all girls dream of the big wedding so I'll give it to her when we're done with college." Sucking on his bottom lip a moment, Sam shifted a little to pull out his phone. "I had some photos?"
Jesse: couldn't help but smile as he explained how the day had gone with his family around. It really did sound perfect in it's own way. Sure, he wanted his own wedding with Rachel to be a spectacle, but that was their own preference. If this was what Sam and Quinn wanted, he'd support it completely. "Renewing your vows would be pretty cool. And I'll totally be there. Nothing could keep me from it," he said before moving onto the couch to see these pictures. "Show me. I want to see whatever you have."
Sam: smiled a little more, pleased that Jesse wasn't angry at him. At least not to the level where he was shouting, or worse. His opinion meant a lot to Sam, and it meant a lot to him to have his acceptance. So, he brought up a few of the photos of the two of them; Sam in his suit and Quinn in her dress. Photos of them holding hands, hugging and one of them just pressing their foreheads together and lingering in close. Photos of two people very much in love, and very happy. Happy that they had done the right thing, on the right day. "She looked perfect... I just-- I'm so lucky. I'm so, so lucky."
Jesse: flipped through all the photos, his smile growing even wider with each one. Even though he wasn't there, he could feel the love from that moment radiating from the photos captured. "These are great... I've never seen two people look so happy together," he said, of course excluding him and Rachel because he couldn't witness the two of them from an outside point of view. "I'm happy for you two. Really. Glad it was everything you wanted... and when you tell everyone and they get over their anger, they'll say the same thing. You are both lucky to have each other. You're going to be very happy together."
Sam: smiled even further, tucking his phone back in to his pocket as he looked at his friend. "Thank you. Seriously, thank you. I didn't want you to have to lie to Rachel either, just.. so you know another reason. But I'll tell Quinn that you know, get her to talk to Rachel. We're cool, right? You're not... too mad at me? I don't want to lose my bro over this." It was a real fear that Sam had, though he knew there was nothing he could change now. Truthfully, after how the ceremony had gone down, he didn't even think he would if he could.
Jesse: reached for his food and a pair of chopsticks as Sam continued to talk, but he paused at his words. "I thought for a second that I could be mean and try to guilt you into naming your first born son after me, but we're cool," he said with a small chuckle. "I just want you to be happy and I'm glad that you are." He started on his food and leaned back on the couch a little more in thought. "Get Quinn to tell Rachel soon because if she finds out I knew for a long time before she did, she'll lock me out again."
Sam: let out a breathy laugh, shaking his head with amusement. "Jesse Evans has a ring to it. I might pitch that forwards to Quinn." He replied to his friend with a chuckle of his own. Jesse's acceptance was like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, and was enough to make Sam visibly relax. Taking hold of his own chopsticks, he leaned to pick up some of the food, readying to eat his way through it. "I will do. I'll talk to her when I leave her and get her to try to hang out with Rachel. I figure it'd be best coming from Quinn than from me. I mean, we're friends but they're closer."
Jesse "Sounds awesome is what it sounds like," he said before taking another bite of the noodles in the carton he had. "You know, one Rachel gets her butt on Broadway, I plan on popping the question, myself," he said proudly. "I know she's not ready to do any rushing, but I want her to make sure she's making her dreams come true before we go for that. We both know we want to do it eventually, though. Just needs to be the right time."
Sam: nodded along as Jesse spoke, thinking that he had quite the idea there. Rachel was clearly career driven and so the moment she had made it on to Broadway, would be a defining moment in her life. A moment that meant she could push for even more, which included a solid move in her relationship with Jesse. "That sounds like a real good idea to me. You guys are perfect together."
Jesse: could only smile at the thought of marrying Rachel. "Glad you think so. And I know it's early and all and I haven't even asked her yet, but I know already that I want you to be my best man. If you want to be, that is." He shrugged a little and looked over at him to see what he'd say.
Sam: felt his smile grow to the point where his cheeks were aching at the mere thought of being the best man for his best friend. "It'd be an honor." And he meant that. To see his best friend make those steps, and to do it with a girl that Sam cared a lot for too, and considered a friend would truly be an honor. He felt a little guilty in that moment for Jesse not being at his own wedding, but he'd at least assured Jesse he would be his best man when he renewed his vows down the line. That compensated for it enough to ease his guilt.
Jesse: couldn't be happier to hear that Sam would be his best man when that day came. Whenever it was, it would be awesome. "Still can't believe you got married, man. I need to do something... When everyone knows, maybe we can have a party or something. We can have drinks and food and just have fun. For any of your friends that are in the area and all, you know? Just a little celebration."
Sam: hummed in agreement, though he then gestured towards Jesse with his chopsticks. "That'd be cool, but first I think it'd be cool if we went out, with our ladies, and had a night to celebrate? You know, dinner, maybe a bar or two if Quinn and Rachel are game. Celebrate in style." But he found himself chuckling low, head tilting a moment to once more look at the wedding band on his finger. "Honestly? I can't believe it sometimes too. It's incredible but I know it's the right thing. I'm so in love with her and I know that it's not gonna be all easy forever but we're gonna make it work."
Jesse: nodded in quick agreement. "Oh, totally. Rachel would love to do something like that. She's been so focused on auditions and stuff that she hasn't gotten much chance to go out for some fun, you know? But we'll have an awesome time celebrating the New York way." It actually warmed his heart to hear him talk about his love with Quinn because he definitely knew how he felt. "I know how you feel. That's how I feel with Rachel," he said before getting an idea. "Hey, we need to have a drink or something. Even if it's just one. This calls for a drink," he said as he stood up and went to his liquor cabinet.
Sam: knew exactly how Jesse felt for Rachel and he liked that. He liked that despite the relationship history they had, their love had clearly won out in the end. Just like with he and Quinn. That's what true love did; that's what the romantic side of Sam believed, wholeheartedly. Taking in a few more mouthfuls of food and swallowing them down, he settled the food down on the table again and, wiping his hands off on his jeans, moved to stand. "A drink would be cool. But not too much; can't have the wife telling me off only a week in to being married, huh?" He was joking, of course, shaking his head at himself. His wife. It was still unbelievable, but in the best kind of way.
Jesse: poured out two shots for him and Sam, figuring that they'd go crazier when they actually went out to celebrate on the town. "Here you go," he said as he handed one to Sam. "Shouldn't do anything to piss off the Mrs," he said before taking his own. "Alright, um... here's to you and Quinn. May you both have all the happiness in the world and may it last forever. I know it will," he said with a soft smile before lightly tapping the glass against his. "Ready?" he asked as he raised his own to his lips.
Sam: took the shot from him with a little grin, raising his own glass to tap it to Jesse's. "Thanks, Jesse. And to you and Rach, too." He paused then and took a moment to smell the drink, able to tell immediately the strength of the drink. Strong stuff, which meant it was the good stuff. "Ready," Sam concurred, tossing the shot back and drinking it in one swift motion. To have a friend like Jesse, he knew he was blessed. To be so understanding after it all; not many people would do that, he knew.
