every so often i think of this one mitridate prod whose aesthetics were very... how do i say this? loudly? yeah, sure. why not. very loud and proud about its east asian influences. and because i am 1) constantly scared of being shot down for my ideas ( in this case my wacky little opera adaptations, even if they're just concepts ) 2) strongly influenced by my chinese background, seeing it made me go "you know what? maybe i won't be shot down, or at least not as violently as i imagined. maybe i can do it."
#for the record it was a production from#staatsoper berlin#and there was one character in a costume that looked pretty distinctly thai/khmer/lao#“distinctly” i say and she could be from anywhere. i don't know it was kind of odd BUT STILL#mitridate re di ponto#opera#operablr#sorry if this is kind of passively vent-ish. i'll just say i've been feeling certain ways lately.
