So long, and thanks for all the fish!
We have many traditions here at UW-Milwaukee Special Collections, and among the most bittersweet are those associated with our departing student staff. These traditions include a celebratory dinner commemorating the work of the entire staff, and especially that of our graduating interns who are departing to become our professional colleagues, and the ceremonial conferring of the Student Captainship from the departing to the succeeding Captain.
After more than two years we bid farewell to our graduate students Kalani Adolpho, Alison Newman, and Elizabeth Kamper (top row of images). Like many of our previous graduate interns, they are destined to become significant leaders in the profession. Kalani, who has worked for us on and off for nearly ten years since their early undergraduate days, will soon become a post-graduate professional resident at the UW-Madison Libraries. Alison and Elizabeth are still waiting to hear back from several institutions about their applications, so if you have one of those applications sitting on your desk, PAY ATTENTION TO IT, these two are keepers!
Alison: Competent, highly dependable and organized, ridiculously hard-working, demonstrated leadership skills, with long experience in bibliographic analysis, gifts processing, project management, book history, and rare-book practices. Among the most able of our graduate Captains.
Elizabeth: Same competence, dependability, organization, and work ethic, with particularly strong experience in public service, instruction and instructional design, public presentations, project management, and exhibition production.
As Alison prepares for her professional career, she passes the Captainship, and her role on our leadership team, to our graduating undergraduate assistant Alex, who will begin his graduate work in Information Studies this fall. Congratulations Captain Alex!
Jun remains as our undergraduate assistant and graduate student Cameron remains to work on special projects. They are joined by our new undergraduate assistant Sarah, and incoming graduate interns Charlotte, Katie, and Eddie. Keep an eye out for their work on Tumblr.
To our departing graduates, department Manager Alice and I are deeply honored and forever grateful to you for serving on our team. With tears in our eyes and joy in our hearts, we are proud and confident to send you off into the world!
