Recommend? Yeah!
This podcast is hosted by 2 friends, Michael Hobbs and Sarah Marshall, who are journalists/writers and they take turns researching a moment in pop culture/ society that was misremembered, misunderstood, or where all the nuance was lost at the moment and debunk the common assumptions. It's semi informal because it's very conversational but also they each do a lot of research (reading, interviews, etc). Listening to this podcast feels like having a conversation with a really smart friend. A feature I like about this podcast is there isn't that 10 minutes of bullshit chatting at the beginning before getting to the point like some other podcasts hosted by people who are friends do. They've done several standalone episodes but lately have been doing more 2-5 part episodes on a single topic. You don't have to listen to the standalone episodes in order, but sometimes they do make inside jokes/references to previous episodes that make it more enjoyable if you do listen in order. I wholeheartedly would recommend this to my friends/family. If you're a person that would rankle at the phrases "it was capitalism all along!" Or "the patriarchy" it's not for you. I should also add that a lot of episodes talk about abuse or other upsetting things, if you know you don't want to hear those kinds of things I would do a quick Google on the topic first to find out. All in all, this podcast is my current obsession, it's funny and compassionate and I feel like I've learned to look at things in a kinder way.
