Look, if Rachel were to come back and say Danny was Charlie’s father this whole time it would be a SHITTY storyline and a way to make Rachel come across as one of the SHITTIEST PEOPLE EVER. Lying to Stan, Danny and Grace the whole time like that? And if she wanted to have a decent relationship with either Stan or Danny then that is NOT the way to do it. What would she expect? To leave Stan for Danny again for the sake of the kids? Charlie is three now and would barely know Danny, barely trust him as a father figure. It’s no way to have that family evolve. And Grace is old enough to recognise shitty behavior like that. It would be a secret that would break them apart further than ever before. All of them. As worried as I am that our writers aren’t above shitty storylines (hello opening of season 4 SHITTY love triangle storyline that sucked beyond the realms of sucking), I feel that Lenkov SHOULD be smart enough to stay away from one that paints Rachel in such a bad light. I don’t think he would do that to Grace.
My mind is going over what could possibly be meant by a ‘secret’.... good or bad, about Rachel herself, about Stan, about her work.... it could be that she’s ill/dying, it could be that Stan is in over his head on something, or lost all his money, it could be that she uncovered something at her own work and needs Danny’s help, it could be that she’s pregnant again by the fucking pool boy....
I just, I REALLY don’t think it’s a paternity thing. I think if it is, I’m out. Catherine storyline be damned, have Steve propose and live happily ever after with her because that would be preferable to Rachel ruining herself like that and them having Danny accept it. I don’t see her motivation in lying about it, I just don’t. She went back to Stan BECAUSE the baby was his. She thought it was Danny’s, that’s why they were going to run back to Jersey originally. She was only interested in being with the baby daddy because of the whole support ‘for the baby’ angle, not the money angle, or the love angle, or the staying away from a man with a dangerous job angle, or the my man is actually more in love with his partner than me angle. She did it so that the baby could be with both parents. If she lied? If it’s actually Danny’s? Three years later? Then she did it for money. No way could Danny take her back. No way would Grace understand. No way would Stan get over it and Stan is a GOOD GUY.
I don’t want Stan to get hurt in it either because we’ve seen canonically that he’s good and I don’t want them to fuck with that either. I think it’s a shame we forget that in fandom sometimes - he’s a guy who allowed Danny to shoot him, to potentially kill him, if it saved Grace’s life. Grace has a lot of positive role models in her life. Her parents, her Step Stan and her Uncle/Step Steve get those honors. I don’t like it when we miss Stan out of the equation. Rachel cheated on him, he took her back, continued to love Grace. When he sacrificed himself it was AFTER all that shit went down, and we think he’s still just the rich guy trying to buy Grace’s affections??? I don’t think so. And I don’t think Danny does anymore either, so let’s show Stan some love in this too. He’s had to accomodate Grace and Danny into his life with Rachel and Charlie, let’s not forget what he goes through.
Back to the secret - my money right now is on illness. It would create an emotional storyline for Danny in season six for Scotty to get his teeth into. I think to keep Scotty around, you gotta give him meat - Matty’s death, the guilt, the pain, that was what he had this year and I think dealing with something Rachel related that’s SERIOUS and will adversely affect Grace just as much, could be potential for season 6. Regardless, it will play one of two possibles - a way to let Scott leave the show, or a way to keep him interested in sticking around longer.
My two cents.
