     “Is that a beard?” Maybe hello would have been a better greeting, but the facial hair caught her off guard. She’d never seen Gabriel with it, not that she remembered anyway, and while it wasn’t a bad look, it was different. She hadn’t been gone that long; a few weeks, between trying to figure out a case upstate and hanging with Trent, but something seemed off.

     “Didn’t think you were one to do that whole no shave November thing.”

    Slightly narrowed eyes look at Gabriel’s response before giving a small sigh in response. They’re almost amused by the reaction, they are actually - but it’s not hard to get an impression of the truth there.

“Come on now - I know it’s horrid. Don’t act like it’s not. I might as clean it out and end up using the material for something else. Getting started on the wrong angle clear can wreck any intentions one had with the thing. “

  “I know right? Sometimes I’m deeply overwhelmed by the sheer amount of junk food that can be made. And the flavor combinations that they try is.. I guess impressive at times. Bewildering more often than that though.“

     “Oh, hey, didn’t know anyone was in here,” while she was used to hanging around Trent, she tended to avoid the rest of band. Mainly because she was afraid she would be thought of as a groupie when she wasn’t. Not that there was anything wrong with being one, but she wasn’t one so she didn’t want the label. Still, she offered a grin and a wave before she found a seat to sit in. 

     “You okay with me hanging out here?”

     “They’re either lying or they’ve never really loss someone,” she hated that phase; she heard it enough as a teenager to know it was a full of shit saying, something someone murmured to make themselves feel better by comforting someone. 

     “I don’t think it gets easier, it just gets...to be normal. Like, I still miss my dad everyday, but I’ve learned to handle it I guess? I don’t know a good way to put it; it doesn’t hit as hard anymore. It doesn’t stay as raw.”

   The fact that their kindness was appreciated brought a small smile to Zora’s face. They were possibly about to see if there were places that would work currently but the phone ringing seemed to cut that line of thinking pretty short. They certainly didn’t blame him for being busy, schedules were impossible to really predict around when just meeting someone new.

“Ah, yes. The night shift. That can be challenging for sure. But afternoons would be a great time. Maybe we should exchange contacts so we can plan for a coffee meetup soon then?  “
