A revamp of Kris' design from Star-Rune (aka Starune, whatever flows better). Thought process + lore below:
the more I thought about it, the more I wanted Kris to be energetic, animated, and kind of obnoxious; a total 180 from their canon personality in Deltarune.
Being raised by Tenna, constantly showered in praise and attention and given anything they asked for...of course they'd end up the complete opposite of canon Kris. They're still a prankster, though.
In Starune, Tenna and Kris take the chronological place of King and Lancer, haha. Tenna is a tyrant (I wouldn't say he's totally *evil* because I couldn't imagine him being that way) who rules over TV World and broadcasts himself 24/7. Kris is Tenna's immature progeny, so I made their outfit Ouji-esque to show that. They're also an actor who has a Distinct Persona, much like a charismatic ruler.
Like Lancer, Kris' first move is to intimidate and attack the Lightners, so that they'll have no choice but to become their "ADORING FANS!!!". Secretly, Kris wants to befriend them and leave for the Light World. Tenna has tried to forbid ANYTHING related to the Light World for all their lives, but they crave the [ FREEDOM ] that it promises.
I tried to visually tie them to Tenna with a couple of details, like the wires on their belt, the dinky tenna buckle, stars, etc. Fun fact the little sheath on their belt is for their microphone!!! they must have misplaced it in the drawing...oh well, Mike will surely get them another one!!!
Kris figured out "Mike"'s real identity a long time ago and uses this to their advantage. They often blackmail the Mikes for things they want to have or happen that Tenna won't give them: a new show, a bigger stage, a cool outfit, pyrotechnics, a [ computer ]. Kris isn't afraid to use their status and authority to get what they want, and if they don't get what they want....they get SCAREY!!!! haha
Kris uses the [ computer ] to connect with the Light World and learn about it. They use the name [ appl3 ] when going on forums. On one forum they started talking to [ holidaygirl1225 ]...
Some rough sketches of Ralsei, the hero of StarRune's prophecy.
Ralsei has always been "a pleasure to have in class", a "role model", a "good influence", someone who takes after Asriel in every way. He's always done his best to make his family happy, even if it means pushing down his real feelings. He has this strange idea that he doesn't really deserve to be a member of the Dreemurr family—it might be because of the old photo still on the wall that Toriel never got around to taking down, showing a nameless human child with messy brown hair that no one talks about. Ralsei can never shake the feeling that Toriel and Asgore want that OTHER child back, no matter how hard he tries to accommodate them and live up to their expectations.
The SOUL is a player that was deeply affected by Undertale when it first came out, and now Deltarune. They have invested themselves completely in the story, the themes, the fan community—they probably even have a Tumblr account dedicated solely to Deltarune. They've projected themselves, in all their loneliness and alienation, onto Kris. Unfortunately, their copy of Deltarune is all messed up! Instead of their favorite character of all time being the protagonist, it's some DUMB Asriel clone!!! [their thoughts, not mine]. Resentful, yet curious about their "hacked copy", Player drags Ralsei along and treats him poorly despite his attempts to mollify them. After all, in his perspective, he's been chosen by an angel to save the world! If he just makes sure they're happy, everything will work out, right?
Right...?
Player is searching obsessively for Kris as they start the game. Much to their surprise, the order of events is all jumbled up. The first Dark World they enter is actually TV World, opened through Susie messing around in Ralsei's house with kitchen utensils while he pleads with her to stop. No one is more surprised than Player to see that their favorite moody, silent protagonist is now a chatty and mischievous tv star. How will things turn out for them all...?
