There are regions of space that all long-haul spacers know to avoid. Places where the stars are few and far between. Of a place of complete blackness. Blacker then deepest ocean or darkest cave. It should be an easy place to navigate with no gravity wells and virtually no nebula to plot around. But they are spoken of in hushed tones and whispers during the long jumps with only the blue-white whirl of hyperspace for comfort. No one knows for sure why they are to be avoided. The old timers tell tales of ships entering and never coming back out. Gobbled up by The Void.
The Starry Ice and her crew stumble into one of these voids in space responding to a distress call. But who will rescue them?

This is my contribution to the Star Wars Halloween fic circle. Everyone has done such great stories. I wanted this to be down for Halloween but I guess this will just have to be a work in progress.
For anyone following my story The Void or for anyone who wants to know what the deck layout for a Corellian Engineering Corporation Action VI Transport looks like the Star Wars Deckplans Alliance has a very nice if incomplete one. I asked them if they had plans to finish it and they said it was abandoned. But I’ve been basing my story on this general layout. This is also the model of the ship Wild Karrde.
Deck by deck layout under the cut
DECK 1 (D1)
At the ship's very bottom lies the bilge. On the Action VI this area is divided into two separate areas (forward and aft) that house the ships landing gear and ballast fuel tanks. Headroom is up to 6'-4" in the forward compartment, and up to 12'-8" in the aft compartment.
DECK 2 (D2)
The headroom for this deck is up to 8'-8". There are several areas of this deck, listed below that are accessed from DECK 3, and cannot be accessed from this deck. This deck contains the bulk of the ship's repulsor emitters, and controllers as well as the ships Force Cylinder System.
Bow Sensor Dome: Hanging from the very front of the ship, this dome houses the ship's scan sensor array. This compartment is accessed and serviced from DECK 3.
Reactor Room: Behind the Bow Sensor Dome, this massive chamber houses the Solar Ionization Reactor. The reactor is the ship's Power Core, and primary power source. Mounted on massive fluid filled dampeners, the reactor has a mere one meter curved crawlspace around it to allow access for servicing. Due to the sensitive nature of the reactor, this area has no artificial gravity of its own. The compartment only has 1/10 normal gravity in flight in the absence of an outside gravitational influence. Collateral gravity fields from adjacent compartments are the source of the compartment's 1/10 normal gravity field. This compartment is accessed from DECK 3 via the forward turbolift.
Forward Repulsor Room: Behind the Reactor Room, this compartment houses the Forward Repulsor Emitters that provide the thousands of metric tons of repulsive-force required to lift to the bow of the ship. Stairs allow access up to the four forward landing gear emitters, which sit atop a small dais-like mounds on the floor. The ship's forward turbolift stops in this room and allows both fore and aft entry and exit. Behind the turbolift is a catwalk that allows access aft to the Force Cylinder Airlock.
Force Cylinder Airlock: Aft of the forward repulsor room, this chamber houses the Force Cylinder System. This device allows transport of personnel and cargo across the vacuum of space without the need for pressurized containers or space suits. This device was used by Talon Karrde in Timothy Zahn's "Heir to the Empire" (Chapter 18, page 187 hard cover edition) to rescue Luke Skywalker from his crippled X-Wing. The system can draw in freight from the port or starboard side. Magnetic shielding allows the outer doors to remain open as freight enters the ship. For complete stats of these devices, see above on this page. Other equipment housed here are, the ship's central repulsor emitters and the ships magnetic shield projectors. The controllers and generators for the airlock doors are mounted behind pressurized compartments. Giant double blast doors allow access aft to the Cargo Lift.
Cargo Lift Room: Aft of the Force Cylinder Room, this compartment houses the aft Repulsor Emitters that provide the thousands of metric tons of repulsive-force required to lift the stern of the ship. The ship's cargo lift stops on this deck for cargo transfer to and from the adjacent airlock compartment.
Aft Repulsor Compartment: Located at the aft most section of this deck hanging from the ships underbelly and behind the Cargo Lift Room, this compartment is two decks high extending up and into DECK 3. Housed on this deck are the ship's repulsor controllers, which are mounted under the Repulsor Generator which is suspended from the ceiling on DECK 3. Due to the fact that the Repulsor Generator takes up most of this compartment, headroom on this deck is reduced to marginally more than one meter.
Deck 3 (D3)
(The Star Wars Deckplans Alliance is incomplete starting on this deck. So everything else is my own information)
Cargo hold, central cargo lift, and Hyperdrive access, bow turbolaser
Deck 4 (D4)
Cargo hold, for and aft turbolift, central cargo lift, six turbolasers (3 Port and 3 Starbord)
Deck 5 (D5)
Cargo hold, for and aft lift, central cargo lift, Fuel tanks
Deck 6 (D6)
Forward section: Life support, water and waste recycling
Aft section: Sublight engine access
Deck 7 (D7)
Forward section: Captain’s suit and back up bridge and ships stores accessed through the forward lift.
Aft section: Crew galley and storage accessed from the aft lift.
Deck 8 (D8)
Forward section: Communal crew bunks, first mate and chief engineer private quarters, crew common room.
Aft section: Main computer banks
Deck 9 (D9)
Main Bridge accessed only by the aft lift. There is one final turbolaser on top of the ship just behind the bridge.
Because I’ve thought way too much about my fictional crew. It was so hard to kill them all in The Void and I’m glad I’m writing another story that will reuse most of them. I need to write another Shirlee Faughn story just so I can use my crew again.
And Bonus because she will always be part of the unofficial crew:
