Crazed by the sole purpose of attracting those to their deaths by singing it. It was the only song mermaids had heard, and the only song they were permitted to sing. So they sung it always.
She hummed it under her breath, but not in a way that spoke of hunger or blood. She was gentle, happy, as she sang to the form on the beach, who had appeared out of nowhere in the depths of the sea. A stargate, they called the thing which let him in. And she had seen him before any others had - luckily. She had swam him to shore, and was sat, brown legs uncovered, beside him, waiting.
The spectacles she held in her hands were amusing to her. Then, Jiya had always found things amusing, much to her sisters’ dismay. Touching her knees, she relished the sight of them. For soon, she would have to go back to the water where she belonged and leave this pretty man alone.
