A new Europe-focused tech map

Tech.eu and Dealroom.co are teaming up to present you a Europe-focused tech map with listings of companies, investors, and insights - the Tech.eu Radar.

Tech.eu is one of my favorite newcomers in the European tech blogging scene. Dealroom.co started as a carve-out from the Noah conference and used the participants’ list to start an European AngelList-like proposition. Now, however, it seems more like they want to be your virtual investment banker (similar to Gust).

I like the wealth of filtering options and the depth of data that is available - even if it seems that there are still some bugs, e.g. filtering startups for Switzerland -> Wix came up (according to the data set headquartered in Zurich), however, they are from Tel Aviv. This his probably how they have 283 company entries in Switzerland - more than my own map SwissStartups ;)

Anyway, a great initiative and an European alternative to AngelList and CrunchBase.

SwissStartups.org now contributing to Startup Genome

When I started SwissStartups.org the fact that there was no map representing the whole ecosystem (startups, VCs, co-working spaces, etc) was bugging me. How can we understand a startup ecosystem, for which we had no data?

This blog is dedicated to the topic of startup ecosystems and it is not focusing on Switzerland particularly. However, as I started my own startup in Switzerland, I felt it was the right thing to start SwissStartups.org. People like me have launched similar maps all over the world, see here. The basic code is available on GitHub and with some basic coding knowledge it is easy to set up.

Shortly after setting it up I have heard about Startup Genome with a great vision to provide data and transparency to startup ecosystems worldwide. On their blog Startup Genome publishes some interesting reports, too.

I am happy to announce that SwissStartups.org is contributing to that vision and through an API, is now connected to Startup Genome.

Unfortunately, the Swiss startup ecosystem is not very well represented in the web. There are not enough bloggers and websites covering the topics. I have been living in Switzerland for over 3 years now and I don't have a good overview. Well, to be honest: in my job the investment focus is on Europe rather than on Switzerland.

There is also no startup map of Switzerland. That's why I put this one up (thanks to the guys from represent.la for the open source code). I have learned tonight that my HTML skills are good enough to do it.

Please help me to spread the word and get the majority of Swiss startups signed up!
