It's been a breezy, lumpy and challenging weekend with a wicked and unpredictable gusty wind making both high speed and slow speed manoeuvres quite tricky! Students have had the chance to drive our #Solent RIBs in a confused lumpy sea to understand just how challenging the #Bristol Channel can be. Fair to say we did get a little bit wet! But with sheltered waters up in the #RiverAvon to master planing, high speed turns and MOB recoveries and a large marina to master the art of close quarter handling it's been a rewarding weekend! Day 1 of #RYA South West Day Skipper Shorebased Course - getting to grips with charts & symbols, position fixing and calculating and adding variation - after a long day we finished up with Buoyage including an interactive game where the students are the harbour authority working out where the buoys need to go. Tomorrow we'll start looking at Estimating our position (EPs) and getting to grips with tidal stream and flow followed by basic seamanship and safety. #IALAA #staysafeafloat
