Steve Harrington sat on his couch with Eddie beside him, his hands shaking and his breath coming in short gasps. He knew he was having a panic attack, but he couldn't seem to get it under control. This was supposed to be a fun evening with weed. To forget what had happened all these summers. This was not supposed to completely fuck him up. He'd been trying to take deep breaths and focus on something positive, but all he could think about was the fear and the suffocating feeling that had gripped him.
Eddie sat beside him, a hand on his shoulder, trying to offer comfort. "Steve, it's okay," he said softly. "Just breathe with me, okay? In, and out, slowly."
Steve tried to follow Eddie's lead, but his chest felt too tight and his head was spinning. He couldn't focus on anything except the fear.
Eddie leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Steve, look at me," he said. "Just look at me. Focus on my voice. You're safe here with me. Nothing can hurt you."
But Steve couldn't focus on anything except the feeling of panic that was consuming him. He felt like he was drowning, like there was no way out.
And then, suddenly, Eddie did the one thing he could think of. He leaned in and kissed Steve, his lips soft and gentle.
Steve froze for a moment, his mind blank with surprise. But then, as Eddie deepened the kiss, he felt a wave of calm wash over him. The fear and panic slowly ebbed away, replaced by a warmth and safety that he hadn't felt in a long time.
But just as quickly as it had started, Eddie pulled away, his eyes wide with shock and horror.
"Oh my God," he gasped. "Steve, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to- I mean, I shouldn't have-"
He stumbled to his feet, his face flushed with embarrassment. "I should go," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Steve watched in confusion as Eddie fled out of his house, leaving him alone and bewildered. He didn't understand what had just happened, or why Eddie had kissed him and then run away.
But as the panic slowly returned, Steve realized that he didn't want Eddie to go. He needed him there, to help him through this. And so, he picked up the phone and called Eddie, praying that he would answer.
