A deeper explanation for the idea I had for a modern AU fanfic of Ghost of Yotei
In this AU, Saito and Oyuki are exes and biological parents of Dojun. When she came out of the closet when Dojun was still a kid, the modern Japanese judicial system granted full custody to Saito, who was very resentful towards Oyuki and raised Dojun as a toxic single father, instilling him with homophobia and the belief that his mother abandoned them. The role what Atsu would have in the story would be of the stepparent who tolerates no shit and puts Dojun in his place whenever he disrespects his mother, or tryng to convince Oyuki to give up on him since she believes that Dojun is beyond any change. What would be the trigger of the plot? Honestly, IDK. Maybe Dojun, after Saito's death, being in a position of needing help (struggling financially, being unable to pay the treatment for a severe illness of him or a child of him, being a homeless junkie, needing a compatible blood or organ donor, etc) and categorically refusing Oyuki's help just out of pride and resentment. Sincerelly, I would like it to have 2 alternative endings, a bad one and a good one.I would like to redeem Dojun because I think he is a really interesting character and his death was a waste of potential in my opinion, like Sensei Enomoto's grandson death.
As a former child of divorced parents, this scene hit a particularly strong nerve... (I don't think I've ever been this angry with Sans before. Toriel too but Sans is more surprising for me.)
(My parents are still divorced but I'm not a child anymore.)
I was literally SO triggered and annoyed by this scene (which means Toby did a great job.) Because yes Kris, you're not alone, I've been there. Walking in to see your parent(s) and their new partner drinking wine and partying late at night? Yup. Been there quite a lot... And it's always super awkward and uncomfortable too.
And Toriel was so freaking neglectful towards Kris. Kris was literally gone ALL day yet Toriel didn't even care. She didn't call, she didn't look, hell it didn't even cross her mind where Kris was.

You and I have both been through multiple fucked up things over the past few years, honestly throughout our entire lives, that no one deserves to go through.
Especially not a child…
…but those days are well and truly behind all 4 of us, my love…
…I promise you that.
This is our Phoenix moment.
All 4 of ours.
I’m so fucking excited to see what the future holds for our weird little blended family of misfits.
It doesn’t have to make sense to anybody else.
Just to us.
Forever & Ever…
…and, frankly, I couldn’t be more excited to get to spend the rest of my life with you at my side, babe.
Here’s to an absolute WHIRLWIND 4 MONTHS of KNOWING each other.
“I wouldn’t love any step kids there not my own” then don’t date parents when you a marry a father or mother you are accepting the responsibility of being a step parent
I love that throughout otgw,
Wirt, being a teenager, fancies himself a purely logical lad, in contrast with his "step dad's son"... never really ackowledging that this (tho understable for his age and situation) immidiate prejudice towards a step parent... is a staple in early fairytales (expecially when it came to royalty)
