2008 Cosplay - Painted Lady/Fire-Nation Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
For my first Halloween working at Nickelodeon, I had to bust out an Avatar: The Last Airbender costume since it's pretty much my favorite tv show ever. During the work day, I was in Painted Lady, then for the nighttime party, I took the cloak off to reveal my Katara. I know that Painted Lady should be coming out at night, but I didn't feel comfortable being at work in a midriff all day. :P I wore Katara again at San Diego Comic Con the following year.
Painted Lady's cloak and Katara's top, pants, and skirt pieces were sewn from scratch. Painted Lady's hat was made by compiling a wicker dish, wicker fans, and sheer fabric together. I used various gold trims for Katara's sandals and arm pieces; handmade Katara's necklace with interface, fabric, gold-trim piping, and cabochons; and Katara's hair piece and Painted Lady's brooch were made out of sculpy.
I would love to do more Katara cosplay - while I feel my body-type is more suited for Korra, my personality is definitely more Katara. My abs are in better shape these days, so maybe I'll re-visit this one...
