"Taoists believe that there are two opposing yet complementary forces in the natural world: yin and yang. Many natural dualities such as male and female, light and dark, high and low, hot and cold, water and fire and life and death are thought of as physical manifestations of the yin- yang concept. This ancient Eastern paradigm parallels the concept in modern physics of positive and negative forces creating the proton, the electron and the neutron. The Eight Trigrams of Steppas Records* derive their inspiration from the ancient Book of Changes (The I-Ching), which states that the forces of yin and yang create the eight primordial features of the universe represented by the Eight Trigrams. Each Trigram is depicted as a symbol comprised of three lines, a straight line symbolises yang and a broken line symbolises yin. These eight symbols are representations of all naturally occurring processes, they represent movement and change. The Eight Trigrams of Steppas Records are an interpretation of the ever changing, myriad sounds of the universe: Forward thinking bass music with a deep roots foundation."
*Each Trigram will feature 3 tracks, 2 tracks from each Trigram will surface as limited edition 10" vinyl. There will be 8 Trigrams ONLY. For more information please contact: [email protected]

FKOF Promo! @alphasteppa's latest release featuring the sounds of Alpha Steppa, Joe Ariwa and Lee Scratch Perry. 'Open Door/ Ra Ta Ta Ta' (AS0813) is out now - just hit the buy link... 1. Alpha Steppa – Open Door ft. Lee 'Scratch' Perry 2. Alpha Steppa – Ra Ta Ta Ta ft. Lee 'Scratch' Perry 3. Joe Ariwa – Open Door ft. Lee 'Scratch' Perry 4. Joe Ariwa – Open Dub ft. Lee 'Scratch' Perry "Joe Ariwa, son of legendary dub producer Mad Professor, meets Alpha Steppa, son and nephew of veteran dub duo Alpha & Omega, featuring the seminal reggae/dub pioneer Lee 'Scratch' Perry. "Widely regarded as the most unique and charismatic of all Jamaican record producers, Lee 'Scratch' Perry aka The Upsetter is one of reggae's longest serving veterans whose story is inseparable from that of the development of Jamaican popular music. Perry pioneered the development of dub music with his early adoption of effects and remixing to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing reggae tracks. Undoubtedly one of reggae's most prolific and influential producers Perry has worked with the likes of Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, The Congos and Max Romeo to name a few. Joe Ariwa's first touch with music was as a two year old when he plugged a guitar amp into his father's mixing desk. Being privileged to be the son of a renowned artist/ technician Joe learned most of his skills at the knee of an excellent teacher. Growing up in and around Mad Professor's infamous Ariwa Studios, Joe quickly developed the skills and technical know-how required to engineer, mix and produce forward thinking dub music with a solid roots foundation. Joe has a string of releases under his belt featuring collaborations with legendary reggae artists including Horace Andy, Dennis Bovell, Earl 16, Michael Prophet and of course Mad Professor himself. Growing up in a similar environment to Joe, Steppas label head Alpha Steppa has also been immersed in soundsystem culture from a very young age and now plays an active role in the developing new wave of dub music. "This release features two unique vocal and dub cuts from Lee 'Scratch' Perry produced and mixed by Joe and Alpha - decond generation dub with a rootical foundation. Presented in the brand new black & gold foil printed Steppas house-bag, quality assured with the golden lion stamp of approval." http://soundcloud.com/fatkidonfire/sets/fkof-promos @alphasteppa http://fatkidonfire.com http://facebook.com/alphasteppa
