Bigger and Better in 2016 By Steve Astephen
Today, we are happy to announce that Wasserman has acquired one of the world’s most respected Action Sports and Olympic athlete management and marketing agencies, The Sports Syndicate. We are very excited about this acquisition because it brings together the industry’s two leading powerhouses. We now have nearly three hundred top Action Sports and Olympic athletes across forty-five sports on our roster, all under the same roof.
There has never been a more important time in our industry than now to consolidate our businesses like this. The Action Sports landscape is maturing and with evolutions in the social and media world, more and more athletes now require resources that build their brands beyond traditional marketing platforms. It’s not just about putting their name on a signature shoe or board; today’s athletes want to take control of and capitalize on their brand, acting as the creator, writer, influencer, director and producer of their own content. And that’s why Wasserman’s influence lies in so much more than just Action Sports and Olympics; we have extraordinary reach across multiple sports, brands and properties, which allow us to bring the widest variety of opportunities to each one of our clients. Adding The Sports Syndicate and their stellar roster of athletes into the mix will only maximize our ability to provide the caliber and volume of opportunities that these elite athletes deserve and have come to expect.
There is a good reason why The Sports Syndicate has been our biggest competitor in the industry for years: they have consistently done solid work on behalf of their clients, in turn challenging us at Wasserman to always bring our A-game every time. Now, we have the unique opportunity to combine the expertise, passion and drive each of our agents possesses with an equally strong and committed group of industry experts to enhance our complete, one-stop shop for athletes. On top of that, The Sports Syndicate’s strength in the Olympics space opens new doors for both our agencies to expand that area heading into the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
When I started in this business, representing just a handful of snowboarders, my goal was to provide each athlete with every opportunity that fit their individual personalities and images, building resources to help them succeed. Over the years, this goal has become my reality and I am extremely proud of what our entire team at Wasserman has accomplished. I strongly believe in the future of this business and now, as we enter this next chapter with The Sports Syndicate on our side, I am as excited as ever to move the industry forward and push the boundaries of everything that is possible for our athletes and their sports in general.
