12. dishes or laundry?

I love hanging laundry out especially when it's a nice clear sunny day and there's a bit of a breeze and everything around is just nice and quiet.

Not so much bringing it back in and being expected to fold it.

7. what’s your favorite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven’t done that you want to experience?

Flying used to terrify me. All the colour would drain from my face and every time the plane hit turbulence I thought it was all over.

But when I went to the US to meet my best friend and the multiple times to visit him after that, I stopped being so scared and would get excited again.

The whole pattern of going to the airport, going through all the processes of getting to your gate and boarding on the plane is just weirdly fun for me. Some times you meet people - I once met a lady who lived just in the next town from where my mum's side of the family lived. And once you're on the plane, it's kind of nice being cut off from the world for a couple of hours. Sure, WiFi on planes has gotten better but it's 50/50 if it works for me at all, so I just don't bother using it and just enjoy turning my brain off for a bit.

I can't say there's a way I want to travel that I've not already experienced.

What movie have you watched most recently? What did you think of it?

what are you looking forward to right now?

It was Fifty Shades Freed because it's an absolutely god awful and one of my favourite hate watch films.

I feel like the actors did the best they could with the material they had to work with, there are some decent scenes despite the plot line but good god please discuss where you sit with wanting children with your partner before getting married.

And I'm looking forward to getting a good night's sleep after a long day - unless this was intended movie wise: I wanna watch Project Hail Mary badly, I just need to find the time

It's ironic that Frozen Teardrop made me finally come around to liking Hilde Schbeiker.

As a kid and a teen, I just could not stand her and couldn't understand why she was Duo's obvious intended love interest.

But after reading FT, I was so angry at how her character had been depicted, my opinion completely flipped and I would now die for her.

I have a whole thing that I want to write on Hilde but whether I can do it with any coherence is another thing OTL

Maybe I should make a fandom blog for my ramblings and keep this just to art as intended.

What's Gundam Wing?

Anime that was pretty popular back in the days of Toonami where five teenage boys get sent to earth piloting mecha called Gundams to fight. Messy, a bit confusing at times, but still near and dear to my heart.

Beginning to understand why part of the Gundam Wing fandom separates Glory of the Losers and Frozen Teardrop from the anime.

GotL isn’t bad — I’m enjoying it — and there are elements of FT I like. But while GotL roughly follows the original anime, it shakes things up in ways that genuinely alter character narratives and the overall story. I originally thought it was just a “better” version of the old rushed Gundam Wing manga from way back (the one squashed into three volumes), but it’s becoming clear that GotL is its own beast, built to sit alongside FT rather than retell the anime faithfully.

FT, in my opinion, isn’t a true continuation of Gundam Wing or Endless Waltz. If I treat GotL/FT as an alternate universe — kind of like how the Evangelion Rebuild films sit next to the original anime —everything goes down a lot easier. It feels like a retelling with its own priorities, not a replacement for the canon I grew up with.

Someone pointed out that a lot of resentment toward GotL/FT comes from the sense that it’s trying to overwrite the canon many of us loved as kids with a “this is the real canon now” vibe. Honestly, I completely agree. I’m neurodivergent as fuck and turns out I don’t handle big changes to childhood comfort media very well. That’s a huge part of why I’ve struggled with FT — not enough to drop it completely (I love Gundam Wing so much I’d probably sniff the characters’ farts for extra content, I say lovingly but very sarcastically, please don’t take that seriously), but enough that it’s been a weird tug-of-war in my brain.

I’m sure plenty of people enjoy FT as a sequel, and that’s totally valid. But for me, it tweaks things in ways I never imagined the anime would go, and sometimes outright obliterates the characters' personalities — don’t even get me started on Catherine or Hilde.

Gundam Wing honestly didn’t need a sequel after Endless Waltz. It was already a messy bow on a messy anime. Rewatching as an adult, I can see all the flaws, and part of me wishes we’d had fewer robot fights and less confusing political drama in exchange for deeper character exploration. But childhood me didn’t care; eight-year-old, lonely, neurodivergent me just liked the hot characters, the doki-doki feelings said characters gave me, and the robots kicking the shit out of each other. I was a simple child.

Maybe if I’d read GotL and FT back then, I’d accept them more easily. But I didn’t even know they existed until the 30th Anniversary pulled my special interest back into Gundam Wing. The series has always been this cosy little safety blanket I kept tucked away from online fandom, so suddenly learning about a whole different “canon” has created a huge disconnect between what I knew and what I’m now reading.

So yeah — Gundam Wing and GotL/FT start from the same point, but they diverge enough that I’m comfortable treating them as separate paths. That’s how I’m making peace with it.

I found a decent fan translation of the Gundam Wing Frozen Teardrop novels because I wanted to know if it was as bad as people say and just.

I'll keep reading through the books, because like a crash in slow motion, it's hard to pull away - and there are elements that had potential - but it's as much of a hot mess as I expected it to be and my brain can only really accept it is as a wild AU fanfiction.

If you like it, you like it and I don't judge - just to me it feels like such a slap in the face.
