“Sometimes you want it so badly it becomes counterproductive…”
After returning home from Asia I felt motivated to start a new training block with some fresh ideas. The structure would be the same as the summer with a heavy emphasis on balance, rhythm and timing, however this time my primary focus was on regular, consistent physical training.
Instead of doing long hard physical sessions after a month away competing, I decided to start small and build up – 5-10 minute power endurance circuits after weights sessions and 10-15 minutes of intervals on the watt bike at the end of each day. Almost immediately I noticed how much of a difference this made to the quality and regularity of my physical training. Towards the end of the training block, I played a tournament at St George’s Hill in Weybridge. Only 2 hours from home and a $25,000 event, it was the perfect opportunity to get some more match practice before my next trip away to America.
