I decided to display my sailor moon condoms by making *condom bouquets*. These were inspired by the amazing fanfiction of @floraone I feel like Sex Guru Minako would totally approve.
When sharing history of stds with partners do you include HPV? I just found out from my pap smear that I most likely have HPV and at risk for cervical cancer but from what I understand and know is that its insanely common and doesn't cause any issues for anyone. That for most people who are sexually active will contract the virus anyway.
This is a great question and the answer is that I tell folks I don’t know my HPV status when I share my results. I’m aware it’s super common and I tell my partners that and the fact that I don’t have a clear for HPV and so far only one has ever had an issue with that answer (his mother had died of cervical cancer so it was a very sensitive subject).
Be as honest as you can--explain the reality of HPV and be sure to inform people of their (however small) risk before having sex with them.
Today’s fic writing research topics: Comstock laws and contraceptive/abortive agents used by women in the later half of the 1800s. Because in my headcanon, 1800s Science!Liz absolutely makes sure that that girls in Maria DeLuca’s bordello aren’t stranded without options, and Dr. Valenti, Post-Civil War M.D. absolutely prescribes contraception for anyone who wants it. Rubber is a thing now, and so are rubbers and diaphragms. Our beloved characters will be progressive both then and now. (Sorry, I just can’t write about characters having sex in any era and find it believable unless they have ways to prevent or address STIs and unwanted pregnancy)
As rates of sexually transmitted infections steadily rise, public health officials say primary care doctors need to step up screening and treatment.
