For anyone interested, here is my quick review of the Ring Video doorbell and Ring Stickup cam.
Doorbell (standard model) battery life is all over the place based on the temperatures but it seems to work nicely. It has a super wide fisheye style view (as seen in the top photo) and works really well. My only complaint is the delay from alerts to my phone/tablet and the motion sensor being WAY too sensitive regardless of settings. It’s set to the closest setting and still goes off when trucks go past. The unit was easy to setup and install and I needed an angle plate to make it more level on my siding. I am adding one more angle plate to try and get more of the porch into the shot to see what is there like packges. Minus the motion detection and slowness of notifications (the person is usually gone before I can answer the doorbell on the phone.) its a nice product with great support.
Stickup cam - Works similarly to the Doorbell, easy to configure, but does not care for 5G networks either itself or on your phone/tablet. Also has same delay even with strong fast wifi. My only real gripe is the view angle, as you can see above, which is NOT wide, which I was expecting. I am not sure if it will work for my needs without adding a 3rd party fisheye to it. But we’ll see.
Overall, the price is not bad, easy setup for both, batteries last quite a while and the stickup cam can be run off USB power or a solar panel they sell for $50. Easy to install, and having access to your doorbell activity anywhere you have internet is nice.
I’ll give them both a 7 out of 10, based on the delays and false positives for motion, or it would be a 8-9.
