When You File Your 2019 Tax Return Will Impact Your Stimulus Payment

The CARES Act provides stimulus payments to most taxpayers. How much you get, however, may depend on when you file your 2019 tax return.

"The $1,200 and $500 stimulus checks will be issued to people who filed a 2019 or 2018 tax return, if you did not file last year or if you haven't filed this year, you will not get a check.

If you are a sex worker or survive off of tips and do not have any taxable income to claim and you don't normally file taxes, file this year in order to get your stimulus check. If you did not make any taxable income, you will not owe taxes, but you will still get your check, so long as no one else claimed you as a dependent.

If you were claimed as a dependent last year, make sure to file on your own this year or you will not get a check.
