So I don't believe I have revealed this yet, but I have grown up with pit bulls my entire life, and can honestly say that I have never met a sweeter, more loyal, caring, breed in my entire life. Currently I have Marvin and Harley Quinn, my wonderful pit mixes; and any "fear" because of their breed sort of angers me. I have met chihuahuas meaner and more vindictive than any pitty I have ever met. It is not the chihuahua's fault either, it is the owner's fault! Dog's no matter the breed are born loving, caring, adorable and sweet. Yes, some may have a surly attitude but it's nothing proper training can't fix. The issue with society today is when we see something broken, we throw it away not fix it. WE train our dogs to fight and be aggressive, WE don't discipline our animals when we see food aggression, when they pick fights, when they get territorial. We let them do whatever they want and wonder why they bite people, why you can't have other pets, or leave the house because they are destructive.
There is a thing called BSL or breed specific legislation. It is basically a wanna be law some cities in Texas and other states that would make it to where pit bulls are actually ILLEGAL to own! Now I haven't much about this lately so it might have been squished, but the idea that people would want to BAN a breed because a few idiots gave them a bad rep is sickening. If something like that were to pass, it would not only be enabling the ignorant way of thinking towards this beautiful breed, but it would also mean that THOUSANDS of sheltered, fostered, and well loved dogs who have done NOTHING to deserve this treatment would be put down all in the name of fear. I don't know about you guys, but I couldn't live without my pitties, they are what keep me going a lot of the time. In the case that this was squashed and is no longer in the run, then I am fighting against the prejudice and train of thought that encourages such acts of violence and slaughter. I will always fight, I will never stop fighting.
I realize that this blog is supposed to be about my own pets for the most part and so far I have written about anything BUT them; for that I apologize and thus offer up a cute pitty story :) My first puppy ever was a pit bull, our roommate at the time had adopted from the same litter so we had these two sweet wiggly, happy, licking pitties in our home. I was about ten at the time and my sister eight or nine. Our puppy (her name was I-said; yes, I-said) was a climber and I remember looking back at the house and seeing her chasing our car!! She did this a few times before realizing it was "bad" and for the next twelve years she never jumped a fence ever again lol. She was a lover of kittens, ferrets, puppies, children and chickens lol. she was my first best friend, my protector and the light in my world growing up. I couldn't have asked for a better breed to have as my first pet, and I look forward to them being my last as well :)
