Finnpoe- "How Lucky Am I"
Poe and Finn retire, suddenly finding themselves married and fathers of 4 former First Order prisoners. They would have been Stormtroopers. Instead, the Resistance prevailed.
A brief snippet from the start of Poe and Finn’s journey into fatherhood.
If you don’t know her already- meet Hera, the youngest of the Finnpoe babies. She was taken as a newborn towards the end of the war, and liberated by Finn, who fell in love with her. Together, he and Poe decided to adopt her, and 3 older siblings soon followed. Hera is about 18 or so months here, and Finnpoe has had her for 3 months.

Hera wakes from her nap and screams for her fathers.
She’s never napped well- their oldest adoptee tells them that the First Order never comforted their stolen infants from nightmares or ill rest. And while she and their boys have at last begun to sleep well, the same is not true for Finn and Poe’s baby girl.
Poe is the one who steps out to get Hera, scooping her into his arms and cradling her against his chest. She wails into his shoulder, clinging to him, and Poe’s heart breaks.
He mutters a few strains from lullabies to her, willing Hera to quiet. It’s a full minute before she settles, gasping tearfully and grabbing at his shirt. He rocks her before pressing a kiss to her forehead, and she wraps a tiny hand around his finger, her brown eyes staring up at him.
“Hi sweetheart,” Poe whispers. “It’s okay. I have you, my love.”

Stormpilot Modern AU Headcanon #376:
Poe is a dog person to ridiculous levels. He adores his dog. He can’t sleep without his dog. He has regular adult conversations with his dog. He loves his dog like a child. He has let the dog into the shower with him on many occasions because the dog “missed him”. He has shared spoonfuls of cereal with his dog and then continued to use the same spoon. Finn just looks at him like -
something Finn loves about Poe is how expressive he is. he’s not accustomed to being able to see people’s faces all the time, especially not kind and open ones like Poe’s. so when he walks into a room and Poe sees him and his eyes light up, and the furrow in his brow melts away, and he seems so genuinely happy, just by Finn’s presence... well, it makes Finn’s heart feel a little lighter.
Finnpoe- Storge
Storge is a Greek word meaning "love, affection" and "especially of parents and children". It is the common or natural empathy, like that felt by parents for offspring. (via Wikipedia).
You’ll never guess who has the worst baby fever rn.

Finn woke and rolled over to glance at the chrono.
0300.
He groaned into his pillow, readying himself to get out of bed to attend to the crying infant-
-and realized that it was quiet, that the night was undisturbed.
This was unusual. For the past several weeks, he hadn’t gone more than a few hours without his baby daughter waking him.
Odder still: there was nobody next to him in bed.
Poe must have gotten up when Hera cried, Finn reasoned, and he fought the urge to close his eyes and let his partner take this one. But Poe had gotten up a few hours before, and he’d given Hera her bath before bed….
Finn groaned again and clambered out of bed, staggering down the short hallway and into the makeshift nursery. The lights were off, and the room was calm, but as Finn blinked the sleep out of his eyes, he made out Poe’s figure, their baby tucked against his chest. He had his nose buried in her hair, which was surprising given that Hera was just a few months old. Poe’s eyes were closed, and he swayed gently, humming a lullaby. Now, the tune was familiar to him, although he first heard it shortly after they had adopted Hera.
He stood in the doorway, watching the scene. Hera seemed to be asleep, her breath silent aside from the occasional snuffle. Still, Poe kept humming and swaying, and Finn couldn’t help the smile that pulled at his lips.
“What are you doing?” His voice was hushed, but not a whisper.
“I don’t want to let go.” Poe didn’t open his eyes. He sounded tired, but there was a stubborn edge to his words. “I’m too happy here.”
“You’re exhausted,” Finn chided, but his words lacked any real conviction. “I’ll take her.”
“Mmm,” Poe disagreed, but he handed Hera over when Finn lifted her out of Poe’s embrace. The baby stirred but kept sleeping, sighing into Finn’s bare chest.
“Thank you,” Poe mumbled, pressing a kiss to Finn’s cheek. He dropped another kiss to Hera’s head, inhaling deeply before he pulled away.
“Are you smelling her?” Finn was louder than he meant to be, the pieces clicking into place.
“Yeah,” Poe smiled, as if it were a perfectly natural thing and not the weirdest thing Finn had ever heard. “She smells good.”
“I’ve never-”
“-smelled a baby?” Poe’s grin widened. “It’s the best thing in the universe.” He shrugged a little, but his gaze quickly softened. “Try it.”
Hesitantly, Finn lowered his head, taking a short inhale and trying to ignore the flushing of his cheeks.
“She smells... soft,” Finn whispered after a long moment. The scent was comforting and not unfamiliar, even after such a short time knowing Hera. “Good.”
“That’s fatherhood,” Poe said, equally quiet. Finn looked up at him, wondering if he too felt the warmth bubbling in his chest, hot and expansive. The pride in Poe’s expression gave Finn the answer he needed, and he smiled and exhaled slowly, overwhelmed.
His partner gave him another sleepy grin and peck on the cheek, then Poe slunk from the room. Finn listened to the bed creak under his weight before turning his attention to their daughter.
She was asleep, but Finn understood why Poe had been so reluctant to let her go. The gentle heat from her breath soothed his skin; she was warm and heavy in his arms. Her skin was soft, and he could feel the gentle flutter of her heart against his own.
Loving her was so very easy. It encompassed everything Finn had ever known, a high that left him soaring above the clouds. What he wouldn’t do to make her smile or hear her laughter. What he wouldn’t give to be here, now, with his daughter content and resting in his arms.
Finn lived and endured every moment of his life to reach this moment.
He’d trade it for nothing.
Finnpoe- “the wave, to the ocean”
Poe dies after a lifetime spent together. Finn deals with the aftermath of losing his partner and other half. It's the hardest thing he's ever done.
WORDS: 3030
XXX
Poe dies on a quiet summer evening. Their bedroom, packed with children and grandchildren, is silent aside from muffled cries. Outside their home, crickets chirp, overlapping and loud, enough so that Finn is thinking of their noisy chorus when his husband takes his last breath.
Everything and nothing changes- the Damerons have been mourning preemptively, and Poe’s death is not sudden. There is only sorrow in missing him, rather than the opportunities lost with the end of a life. They cry and comfort each other, as they have done for so many days prior, and they do not need to conjure up funeral plans. Poe wrote his first will when he was 19, and since then, he merely edited and revised his wishes as his life evolved.
Finn experiences his first second, night, week, as a widower. He and Poe spent a lifetime together, and then there is nothing.
Nothing is not nothing. It’s the unification of his entire family, of old friends and beings from all corners of the galaxy. Decades worth of meeting, knowing, loving people. That is the relief to the pain, that he may be surrounded by all the lives he and Poe have touched. His children don’t leave his side.
Distinctly, Finn is aware that he needs them as much as they need him, but this is a role he has always struggled with. He hesitates to ask for help from the people who have just lost their father. They love and know him, but they cannot break through his veneer.
He can hide his grief with a gentle smile or a hug. It’s easier because he means it, but these moments are a droplet of joy amongst an ocean of sorrow. Still, on the surface, all appears well.
When Finn learned the ways of the Force, he became well attuned to the feelings of others. He knows the warm light of happiness, the fire of anger, and the stormy turmoil of pain. He knows that, try as one might, these feelings cannot be hidden or erased. He’s felt the pain of widows and the bereaved. It’s a beacon in the Force, overwhelming and blinding.
Rey can hardly look at him. He can feel her pain, he knows the hurt of his children. Finn knows that Rey must be drowning in his sorrow. He is lost, and he knows that Rey can feel this turmoil just as clearly as he lives it.
Yet she is the last to depart even after duty calls his children away. Weeks fade to months, and although there is no ground beneath Finn’s feet, something like normalcy returns.
It is not quite true that Rey leaves Finn. He examines what’s left of his life before him, and then he cannot stay on Yavin, in a place that still smells like Poe, every inch of their house defined by their life together.
Finn finds a quiet corner of the galaxy, and he goes. Rey discovers a brief holo explaining why he’s left, and that is all. There’s a few frequencies she and his family can call on, but no coordinates with which to find him. It’s him and BB-8, and Finn is really, truly alone, for the first time since he was 21.
Finnpoe Modern AU- Single Dad!Poe- PART 2
Lmao so Part 2 was supposed to be focused on Finn and Poe’s relationship but that didn’t happen as planned so. yknow. Now there’s a Part 3 on the way where more things actually happen, Finnpoe-wise, and that should explain more about their relationship. It is also very possible that a Part 4 may happen, but all of this is for after finals end next week ANYWAY
Thank you again to Eliane, who had the original idea for this headcanon!
