(Here's an ask you maybe didn't expect :') ) How can I get hired (or at least noticed) by Del Rey to work on their Star Wars books? I've got editing experience, just no idea how to go about actually getting hired for my dream job.
Okay so take literally everything I’m saying with a grain of salt because I do not work for Del Rey and I do not have any insider knowledge into their hiring processes etc etc. If you’ve ever seen me at the Del Rey booth working, I am doing so 100% as a volunteer because I have a deep-seated need to be useful and I like helping them out. The folks who work for Del Rey are good people.
My best guess would be that it works like anything else in Star Wars: establish yourself within the field first. Also, there’s not a ton of turnover within that office (or at least not that I’ve noticed over the years I’ve been paying attention) so it may be worth looking at Disney/Lucasfilm Press, DK, and other Star Wars publishers as well and keeping an eye on all of their job listings. My guess is that it also wouldn’t hurt to chat with/be friendly with the people who work there now so they know you/might think of you if there’s an opening down the line.
This is all probably not helpful advice that you already knew, sorry. My day job’s not even in publishing so I’m doubly clueless here.
