okay distracting ask coming in — in your crookedheart au what happens when stormshell becomes leader?
Okay he definitely would've changed Crookedheart's name back to Rainflower if he became leader many moons earlier, but now he's not so sure.
Crookedheart, of course, visits him and tries to convince him to change her name. Stormstar would ask her if she would name him Crookedkit a second time if given the chance, and she would say that it still suites him (because she's just too proud). He responds that her name still suites her (this is taken from a previous ask btw).
I imagine he also implements a new law that if a mother or father deliberately mistreats their own kit, with good intentions or not, and those mistreatments harms the kit in any way, the leader, medicine cat, or other trusted members of the Clan have the right to remove that parent's custody and give the kits to someone who promises to treat them better.
He probably suggests this law to his own Clan first (staring daggers at Crookedheart as he does), before suggesting it to the Clans. He gives his own story as an example, feeling a weight lift off of his shoulders as, for the first time, he tells everyone-- and himself-- how horrible his mother was.
They already knew, of course, but Stormstar always sort of blamed himself for what happened to Crookedheart. Even when he knew it wasn't his fault, he had that nagging feeling in the back of his mind. Maybe if he was more careful.. Maybe if he was more convincing with Hailstar..
But then, at the gathering, in front of all the Clans, he was able to say it. It was Crookedheart that wasn't deserving of him, not the other way around. He's glad Hailstar kicked her out of the nursery, and he's glad he was raised by Shellheart and Echomist--cats that actually love him.

In Warriors, they almost always seem to dismiss how cats treat their own kits other than a "hey stop that," probably because "they're the parent, they know what's best" and "I don't want to overstep."
