#igersnewengland If you've ever wondered why there's a big telephone sitting out above the harbor in #GloucesterMA this weekend is the time to find out! . The #GreasyPole contest at #StPetersFiesta runs tonight, Saturday and Sunday. . Sunday's competition will pit the winners of this years contest against all former champions (or their surrogates) in an attempt to capture the flag out at the end of this very greased up pole. . Each contestant is given one practice walk on the pole and then the contest runs until the flag is captured. Best viewing is from Pavillion Beach or on boat or kayak. . Sunday's festivities are proceeded by a procession of St Peter in the morning, a blessing if the fleet that afternoon and #SeineBoat races prior to the greasy pole finale. Lot's to do in Massachusetts this weekend with #SailBoston2017 kicking off today, and #StPetersFiesta running all weekend in #Gloucester. . . One of our favorite local events- the #greasypole competition runs tonight, Saturday & Sunday. If you've ever wonder what that big telephone pole is doing in Gloucester Harbor- this is the weekend to find out! . . A unique local event, the rules are about as simple as they sound with contestants attempting to walk to the end of the very slippery pole to capture the flag that sits at the end. Every contestant gets a practice walk and then the contest runs until someone succeeds. . . We pick Sunday as the best day to watch as the previous night's winners compete against former champions from years past or protégés who walk in the place of the former winners.
