i think a lot about jack and stranger missions (i’ve written about it too, and i’ll do it again) but i was dicking around in my 94% save and had a thought. if encountering algernon wasp (the “Duchesses and Other Animals” guy— also the guy arthur can save from choking at the party during “The Gilded Cage”) in the epilogue, john introduces himself as “jim milton,” for obvious reasons. the next time they meet, algernon will greet him as “james”— likely because he’s very formal, and “jim” is a nickname/diminutive form of “james”. still with me? see where this is going?

anyway, could you imagine the crashout if jack met algernon and was promptly called “john”?

When it comes to most stranger missions / stranger characters, the characters involved are more often than not humans. I can offer a few strangers that have stories related to monsters in the AU:

Deborah MacGuiness: she’s a paleontologist who wants to reassemble the remains of an ancient monster (dinosaur). Arthur or John can aid her in the process and marvel(?) at the final product. The irony is that Arthur is John being monsters know that the skeleton assembly is incorrect, yet they don’t mention it.

Albert Mason: he wants to photograph wildlife, but more specifically capture the last few glimpses of monsters candid in their environment before they’re all gone. Arthur (or John? I forget if John can do Albert Mason missions) help him where possible, but is careful to not put himself as a monster.

Margaret (Bradley Bros. Circus animal wrangler): his mission is much the same as in game, except instead of a lion, Arthur or John are tasked with retrieving a Sphinx! Neither expects to find an ACTUAL Sphinx girl cowering in the barn with blood on her mouth and paws. It’s implied that she was captured young as a cub and kept in the circus her entire adolescence. She is small for a Sphinx and makes distressed blubbering as she was never formally taught to speak by her Sphinx parents or human handlers. Arthur or John shoot the Sphinx when she pounces on them, ending her suffering in captivity. This mission is a pivotal moment in how I imagine Arthur’s shift in chapter 6; he draws connections to how killing a Sphinx was difficult for him because of how much he subconsciously fears Dutch (a Sphinx). He’s lived his life in fear of someone he should be able to

The Wapiti tribe are a group of miscellaneous monster species in the AU (Eagle flies and Rains fall are manticores). All are forced to stay in human disguise as per the US government’s demands. They don’t have a massive presence in the AU since the story is majority concerned with “what if Dutch got SO MUCH WORSE even before chapter 6?”, but they exist and have their own story about being forced from their land by prospectors.

i love rdr2 fics that features stranger missions (asides from popular ones like albert) but like

i always wanted to make my own fanmade one. not something super intensive but one that seems innocuous at first but is rife with supernatural/horror elements

pov a woman who wants you to retrieve items for her and gives you a location to where shes at but when you go there its a graveyard and you find her gravestone

or maybe like the vampire route. a mission where a man is DESPERATE he's like "(bounty hunters) kidnapped my wife and child!" and youre confused because they shouldnt really be going after kids but maybe its a hostage type situation. you track them down across several areas and in the 2nd to last you see a woman, bloodied but unharmed, tearful wailing for her child. maybe the wife escaped? and the last area you find has a wolf pup in a cage and men claiming they are hunters not bounty hunters but when you kill them the man and woman embrace the wolf pup and thank you for saving their kid. ??

idk i think theres a lot of potential that i dont have the patience or skill to explore

Reasons to love R* - they could have shown a close up of Black and White here. They could have used a lot of different angles to get there. 

INSTEAD, they decided to keep Arthur’s ass right there in the frame, on the forefront, and I appreciate that very much.
