I went to the most wonderful party at a friend’s home last weekend. I enjoyed amazing conversations with her friends and family, while we gazed at a glorious wide-open view of barley fields and toasted marshmallows on a fire in her little woodland.
My friend and I met at the school bus stop in Kingsley, Cheshire at age 11 and from the beginning I could sense she was a very special person. She has a successful business she grew from nothing but her own brain power and hard work, and as a hobby she grows beautiful flowers for cutting, including straw flowers for winter dried flower arrangements.
It was lovely to see them – such a symbol of hope at the end of a very happy weekend!

The upright annual Xerochrysum bracteatum (everlasting flower, paper daisy, straw flower) is grown from seed in the spring. It thrives in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun.
