(Name) Cookie munches on their snacks in the kitchen. They picked these up while at the store earlier and decided they weren’t hungry enough for a full meal.

The Sage of Truth shoves open the kitchen door, looking very annoyed. His eyes widen for a second when he realizes they’re there and he smiles just a little. With the sweetest look he can manage he asks, “May I have one?”

Without missing a beat, (Name) Cookie opens a cabinet next to them and pulls out a bag of his favorite blueberry candies. They pull it open, eat one, then offer it to him.

He gasps, gliding over to them as his whole face lights up in glee. Tugging them into a hug he very lightly kisses their cheek, “Thank you!” Then he takes his prize and leaves, likely for his own room.

They stare after him for a moment before rolling their eyes and snickering. A bigger smile makes its way onto their face when they realize he used that hug to sneak one of their own treats.

Later that evening they found themself lying awake in bed, replaying the scene in the kitchen over and over again.

They should have hugged him back… He probably needed it. He cleared out pretty fast so he was probably upset. They haven’t seen him since.

Pulling themself out of bed, they leave their room behind and make their way over to his door.

There’s no way he isn’t asleep. They’ll just knock then go back to bed.

Knocking as softly as they can manage, they step back and start counting seconds so they can go back to their room the moment it’s been too long. It’s not like there’s any way he heard them—

The door opens.

They internally panic and lock their gaze on the floor.

“Everything ok?” The Sage of Truth asks them.

Looking anywhere but him, they feel their expression twist uncomfortably. They didn’t think this would happen… Now what do they do?

He takes a second to read them before snickering a little and joining them just outside the room. “Miss me?”

They pull the most awkward face they think they ever have as they nod softly.

He doesn’t ask them to look at him; he just closes the distance between them and softly wraps his arms around them. They feel him jolt a little when they quickly return the embrace and he tightens his hold to match theirs.

After a long while he breaks the silence, “Feel better?”

“Yeah…” they admit before asking what’s half bothered them since this afternoon. “Are you doing ok?”

“I’ve been through worse.”

Rolling their eyes, they don’t let him pull away, “That’s not an answer.”

There’s an awkward pause before he answers, “…Better than I was earlier.” He sounds like he’s glad they can’t see his face.

They stay there in silence for another minute before (Name) Cookie asks, “Do you want me to stay here?”

“Let’s go to your room.” He lets go of them and instead takes their hand, pulling them along back to their room.

“That sick of your own?”

He doesn’t reply.

They don’t blame him.

The Sage lets them correct the blankets they threw aside and climb into bed before joining them and pulling them back into his arms. “Goodnight…”

They return the embrace and finally shut their eyes. “Love you.”

He was definitely caught off guard by them saying it. It takes him a minute to reply. “I love you too.”
