Kangaroo Point: Free Camping in the Middle of Brisbane
The Lower River Terrace at Kangaroo Point has a free parking limit of 4 hours. Four hours are already a lot, but the parking time is not enforced. Kangaroo Point is also popular among local people. Climbers, joggers, slackliners, BBQers and backpackers meet here.

You should be able to sleep undisturbed here. In the evening you can have a barbecue at the electric BBQs and have breakfast in the morning at the benches. You are always right by the river with perfect views of the skyline of Brisbane. We believe these are invaluable backpacker moments, where you feel like a king.
Nearby there are also public toilets – but no showers. For free showers, you’ll need to walk 10 minutes to the Streets Beach on the South Bank Lagoon – a very beautiful place.

From Kangaroo Point, it is just a short walk to the city center or to the Streets Beach on the South Bank, where there is an artificial yet excellent lagoon, and the Ferris Weel of Brisbane.

In addition to BBQs and benches, there are also plenty of public toilets and showers – but with cold water. Streets Beach is a super designed lagoon on the Brisbane River with places to chill and a water park. If you are sleeping in the car at Kangaroo Point or you park there than it’s just a 10-minutes walk along the river to reach the lagoon.
Casino Brisbane
The few casinos in Australia are perfectly equipped. Like the casino in Melbourne, the casino in Brisbane is open 24 hours a day. Here you do not necessarily gamble and put everything on red, but there are of course also restaurants and bars.
The Brisbane Casino is located on Elizabeth Street at Victoria Bridge, across the street from Streets Beach and The Wheel of Brisbane.

Backpacker Tip: Live Sports 24/7
Who would love to follow sports at European or US times, or sports, which are not popular in Australia like soccer, has the best odds to do so at the Brisbane casino.
For example a match of the Bundesliga, Serie A, Liga Liga or English football? Or the European Championship or the World Cup? In the sports bar in the casino you will definitely find a screen that shows your event. Otherwise just ask the bartender who will search for the right channel – they are very well equipped.
In large cities in Australia casinos are generally the best starting point for live sporting events.
Brisbane Library
If you are looking for a quiet place to work or need internet access, such as to write a résumé, you should try it in the state library of Brisbane.
The library is not far from the South Bank and is generously equipped. The staff there are also extremely helpful when you need to print something.

The area around Hinze Dam on Advancetown Lake, just behind the Gold Coast, is perfect for a day trip from Brisbane or the Gold Coast.

The Hinze Dam supplies drinking water for the about 500,000 inhabitants of the Gold Coast. The villages behind Hinze Dam, especially Springbrook, invite for hikes similar to those of the Blue Mountains near Sydney. There are some outlooks here that also deliver what they promise – an awesome view.
Even the “Best Lookout Ever” (it’s really called like this) is probably one of the best in Australia. From there you can see the skyline of Surfers Paradise, the Pacific Ocean and even all the way down to Byron Bay.
The area is an insider tip for tourists and therefore relatively quiet, especially during the week. All the lookouts and hikes in Springbrook National Park can be made easy within a day.

Kangaroo Point: Kostenlos Campen mitten in Brisbane
An der Lower River Terrace am Kangaroo Point herrscht ein gratis Parklimit von 4 Stunden. Vier Stunden sind bereits viel, allerdings wird die Parkzeit auch nicht kontrolliert. Der Kangaroo Point ist auch beliebt unter Einheimsichen. Hier treffen sich Kletterer, Jogger, Slackliner, BBQer und eben auch Backpacker.

Ihr solltet hier ungestört schlafen können. Abends könnt ihr an den BBQs bequem grillen und am Morgen an den Bänken frühstücken. Dabei seid ihr immer direkt am Fluss und habt perfekten Ausblick auf die Skyline von Brisbane. Wir sagen das sind unbezahlbare Backpacker-Momente.
Gleich in der Nähe befinden sich auch öffentliche Toiletten, allerdings keine Duschen. Für kostenlose Duschen müsst ihr nur 10 Minuten zur Lagune Streets Beach an der South Bank spazieren.

Neben BBQs und Bänke gibt es hier auch zur Genüge öffentliche Toiletten und Duschen – allerdings mit kaltem Wasser. Streets Beach ist eine super gestaltete Lagune am Brisbane River mit Liegeflächen und Erlebnisbad. Wer im Auto am Kangaroo Point schläft und parkt, spaziert nur für 10 Minuten den Fluss entlang, um die Lagune zu erreichen.
Casino Brisbane
Die wenigen Casinos in Australien sind um so besser ausgestattet. Wie auch das Casino in Melbourne ist das Casino in Brisbane 24 Stunden am Tag offen. Hier muss man nicht unbedingt zocken und alles auf Rot setzen, sondern es gibt natürlich auch Restaurants und Bars.
Das Casino von Brisbane befindet sich in der Elizabeth Street bei der Victoria Bridge, auf der anderen Seite des Fluss des Streets Beach und The Wheel of Brisbane (Riesenrad).

Backpacker Tipp: Sport live und zu jeder Zeit
Wer Sportsendungen z.B. aus Europa früh morgens verfolgen möchte, hat im Casino dafür die allerbesten Chancen.
Es läuft z.B. ein Bundesliga-Spiel? Oder die Europameisterschaft? In der Sportbar im Casino findet ihr bestimmt einen Bildschirm, der euer Event zeigt. Fragt ansonsten einfach den Barkeeper, der den Sender suchen wird – sie sind super ausgestattet.
In Großstädten sind generell Casinos die beste Anlaufstation für Sportveranstaltungen, die live übertragen werden.
Brisbane Bibliothek
Wer auf der Suche nach einem ruhigen Ort zum Arbeiten ist oder Internet braucht, um z.B. einen Lebenslauf zu schreiben, der sollte es in der staatlichen Bibliothek von Brisbane versuchen.
Diese befindet nicht weit von der South Bank entfernt und ist großzügig ausgestattet. Die Mitarbeiter dort sind auch überaus hilfreich, wenn ihr etwas drucken müsst.

26.01.2015 - 28.01.2015 BRISBANE! We spent Australia Day on the Streets Beach in Brisbane with live music and did a tour with the free city hopper ferry on tuesday.
South Banks "much loved" beach back open

After being badly damaged by the Queensland floods, South Banks’ Streets Beach is set to re-open.
The iconic inner-city beach sustained structural damage during Januaries floods and it has been under repair for the last eight-months.
South Bank Corporation CEO, Malcolm Snow, said the opening a great milestone for Brisbane city.
“We are pleased to announce the reopening of our largest, and final pool in time for the school holidays, and invite the people of Brisbane and visitors to enjoy everything this unique precinct has to offer.” Said Mr Snow.
As well as brand new lighting and filtration systems, the large lagoon required the removal of 300 truckloads of contaminated sand, and has since been re-filled with over 3000-cubic-metres of fresh sand.
The area will be host to many new and familiar festivals over the coming months.
