Clover paused, expression unreadable. Needing a moment to gather his thoughts on the matter was an understatement, since he had not expected to be approached about the matter. He’d prefer not to talk about it, particularly it being brought up so aggressively. Out in the open. It was preferred to be walked around, a topic not to be addressed directly.
“Why not?” No point in asking how he knew, since Clover had a pretty good guess. Shaking his head, his expression remained unreadable. “It changes nothing. You should know better than anyone, right?”
“Though maybe not, this isn’t the end of the line, not for you. For me? This is it. There’s no return to Remnant, or anywhere else. I exist here now, or in a body bag on some airship at this point.” Crossing his arms, previously unreadable expression darkened uncharacteristically. It was irritating, to be talked down to like this. By someone who didn’t know how he felt.
“I don’t think you get to lecture me about this, of all people. At least, from what I know.” Entirely the opposite, really.
“Don’t go spreading it around, either. This isn’t your business, and I’d much rather prefer we don’t pretend you care more than a passing thought about what happened to me.”
